Danny Baker payed fitting tribute to John Martyn by playing nothing but his songs on his show this afternoon. 2 whole hours.

Baker, who had just found out before he went on air sounded genuinely distraught, and seemed like he wouldn't be able to do the show.

For anyone who doesn't know his work or just wants to enjoy the music this is a link to the show.

His performance of "Couldn't love you more" on the Old Grey Whistle Test is one of my top 5 tracks of all time - was very sad to hear the news yesterday frown

Saw him at his last Gig at the Birmingham Symphony Hall. Its not a small venue and he could still pack it out. Not bad for a bloke in a wheelchair that the average guy in the street has never heard of. The true testament was the Big names who played on some of his albums (Clapton, Phil Collins etc) and professed themselves to be fans. He was truely an innovator (in his day) and a musician's musician.

I am going home tonight, the fire will be on in the living room and lights will be off. My Vinyl collection (not CDS) will be run through from Bless the Weather to Philenthorpy and the whisky bottle will take a bit of a bashing (I may just get to the CDs). Tonight is a night to hear you growl and rumble one last time John then RIP.

PS. When you get to the Gates just play St Peter "I don't want to know about evil, I only want to know about love..." and Dont give the Big Man up there too much of a hard time

It's hard to believe someone who lived like Oliver Reed used to be best mates with Nick Drake.
