Somebody mentioned Slipknot.... great band and Vol 3 is awesome!
Lest we forget the mighty Stonesour,Corey Taylor's 'side project', they really do rock!
Both Stonesour (self titled) and Come Whatever May are excellent!
With you on that one. Corey Taylor does have an amazing voice, and I am a huge fan of his Stone Sour project. Am looking forward to the new Slipknot album as much as the new Metallica album as they say that Corey's voice is given more of a workout on this one.

Several of the bands being mentioned are as old Metallica themselves though. Not new stuff. Its pretty hard to think of anything new in a similar style. Im tempted to suggest Municipal Waste for some good new thrash, as long as you arnt expecting anything deep and meaningful from it.

Another vote for Rammstien here and System of a down, really heavy sounds.
another big thumbup for Rammstein here too, awesome band, got a new album due out sometime soon too IIRC...

early SOAD is wonderfully heavy stuff, the debut right up to Toxicity all tick the heavy boxes IMO!

haven't read through all the thread, but other ace heavy, speed, thrash metal bands out there worth checking IMO,

Slayer - i've just started listening to them again, Reign In Blood is a thrash masterpiece!

Pantera - Vulgar Display Of Power! awesome album, the album cover tells the whole story really!

Megadeth - an all time fave thrash band of mine, Rust In Peace has all the meaty shredding/riffing you could wish for!

i agree wth those who say its well worth checking Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot (yes the early stuff can be a real onslaught, but the nontet of masked nutters have started to mellow out a bit recently, but still retain a heavy edge, check Youtube for the new Psychosocial song!) Disturbed (i had The Sickness once, pretty good as far as i recall)
Pitchshifter (british industrial!) and Static X (very good, Machine and Start A War are albums worth seeking out IMO)

HTH

When it comes to newer stuff I tend to lean towards the more extreme end of the metal genre, but when it comes to older thrash you can't beat a bit of Exodus (still going and the new album Atrocity Exhibition is pretty damn good) and as for British bands you can't go wrong with a bit of Acid Reign or Onslaught.

Acid Reign.
Wahey! They were one of my favourite bands way back when.

On a vaguely related note...I see Lawnmower Deth are reforming for a one-off show. Yikes.

Supporting Bullet for my Valentine, strangely. I think Kev is on their crew or something.

All we need now is Acid Reign to get back together. Xentrix did, for crying out loud...

As did Onslaught and it transpires Virus have just reformed too!

With regards to Lawnmower Deth, I can't believe they're supporting BFMV, not the gig I would've expected them to be playing, not bad value for money though I like the other support acts; Bleeding Through and Lacuna Coil. I shall be leaving before BFMV, can't stand 'em!!

Been giving Metallica's "Garage Days II" a reblast. Revisiting that trad metal sound but any decent old style metal bands out there that are new? I mean trad heavy style and not this Emo ste that seems to have taken hold these days? I am looking for stuff in the vein of Pantera, Metallica, Sabbath... must be some of you out there tuning into decent trad but NEW metal bands. If so, who are they? I'll go buy 'em.

Here's a leftfield suggestion... what about Apocalyptica?

They started off playing Metallica covers and have performed with them in the past. They're not a sound-a-like as such, but might be of interest.
