Been giving Metallica's "Garage Days II" a reblast. Revisiting that trad metal sound but any decent old style metal bands out there that are new? I mean trad heavy style and not this Emo ste that seems to have taken hold these days? I am looking for stuff in the vein of Pantera, Metallica, Sabbath... must be some of you out there tuning into decent trad but NEW metal bands. If so, who are they? I'll go buy 'em.

You could try a band called Corrosion Of Conformity they are kind of similar, in fact James Hetfield sings on one of their tracks.

Just read the bit about new bands, they aren't exactly new!

For a different slant on Metallica, get the S&M album. All their greatest hits performed live with the full 92 piece San Francisco Philharmonic orchestra as accompaniment. Absolutely knockout sound and I find it difficult to listen to normal Metallica now!
i have it but it just didnt do it for me, but thanks

Blaze Bayley's new album, "The Man Who Would Not Die" is an absolute stormer if you're after proper old school metal. Has everything I love about proper metal, but sounds fresh as well. Really is very good stuff indeed, and is nice to hear in this day and age of widdly nonsense like Dragonforce.

Add my vote to the "St Anger is a steaming pile of cack" column. Really has no redeeming features I can think off. None.
Ah Blaze (mr cool sideburns), will check him out. St Anger, was awful. It languishes with S&M in a dark corner of my collection.

Metallica's new album is out in September and is called Death Magnetic. Check out missionmetallica.com for sound bites and art work.

I hope it's better than St Anger but St Anger does have some redeeming features (I find it sounds better when I'm in a bad mood!).

There's a lot of good metal out there but there is a lot a lot of crap!

I find new stuff by watching MTV2, Kerrang and Scuzz on Sky TV.
I haven't watched Kerrang!! for a while and tuned into it the other day, i like it but a lot of video's on there are what i saw before. Too much Emo ste around for me. It's got to be industrial, electronica, or trad but its gotta be HEAVY!!

Have you tried Ministry? They've been around for ever, Psalm 69 is still one of my favourite albums. Or Nine Inch Nails?
I love industrial mate and along the Ministry line its gotta be NIN or (shock) Gary Numan - yes he is heavy these days - as with Killing Joke. But sometimes i just fancy a bit of old school type heavy trad metal. It depends. I am playing Therapy? today.

For another different slant on Metallica (other than listening to S&M as someone mentioned earlier, which is my favourite of their albums) try looking up some of the covers by Apocalyptica. Metallica songs without the words, but played on cellos! It works surprisingly well.
That sounds great. I'm so looking that up at the weekend!
Saw them support Rammstein... fecking amazing. Yes, recommended.
