Long: a few. One which comes to mind is a Delahaye Type 235MS Coupé, especially the rear windscreen. It didn't feel like automotive glazing. Was more like cabinet making. A million and one slotted brass screws, different sizes for different parts of the frame. PITA: TVR Tamora with new frame rubber. In the winter. An early 911 Targa rear windscreen with new rubber can also be a real test of your nerve and patience.
I did a Lotus Esprit drop glass on call once, when I took the door card off I fell over laughing at how rough they cut the doors out at the factory, literally with a blunt bladed jigsaw, I called the owner into the workshop for him to witness the quality of his posh sports car!
As most fitters,i have many stories, once a sheet of steel slid off a wagon and through a windscreen of the following van, there was blood and scalp still on the bulkhead behind the seats…
Numerous glass replaced where pedestrians had been hit, full reglazes of vehicles…due to cheating husbands..
An ERF screen (5855) where a driver had been shot at by some nutter on a motorway bridge with a crossbow!! The bolt went through the glass, but the flights stopped it going all the way…
Etc etc
We (and our contractors) run lots on fleet (100s).
Not seen screens crack, however on base white ones they rust around the A pillars/screen top by 12month 30k miles.
Toyota won't touch them under warranty, as "stone chips". Funny how we have fleets of them with a pillars cover in rust, and screen surrounds bubbling by 25-30k miles.
CAVEAT; only white ones we've seen this on.
Such an issue, that my dept. now has switched to Izusu DMax's. Unless you're towing at weight limit, the 168bhp 1.9tdi lump is leagues better anyway.
