guys.

i've just come back from 7hrs searching sharjah, al awir, SZR and everywhere in between. i've been in the country 6mths now and actively searching for 4 of those. i just can't seem to find the right car for me.

i feel dejected, half a man. a short sleeved shirt frown

is there any hope for me or am i going to have to rent a civic again?

for an AED100k budget [or thereabouts], what would you buy? please stick up links and pics. i'll tell you what i like and dislike about it and we can either narrow the search or agree i am looking at 3yrs in a rental.

c, then a. maybe some c. what's d? smile

remember the 964 i had inspected the first week of looking? well i should have realised how rare a car like that in the condition it was in is out here. i was chatting to the dealer about it at the weekend and he sold it for only 2k more than my best offer to him. arse.

i want something interesting and preferably something i will keep for a few years. a golf or audi just aren't for me i'm afraid.

out of modern cars, i would jump at a decent z4m coupe. a cayman is a backup option, and i could afford a 997 if i wanted to [i.e could stomach the depreciation]. i can't really think of any other 'modern' alternatives, the new yanks just aren't my cuppa tea.

i have thought of a cheap stripped out, track ready impreza, but that's only practical if i had parking space for a daily/4x4 as well.

i'm a bloody woman, i seem to be able to pick fault in most cars, aside from those which aren't readily available here.

i haven't driven either no, nor the z4m.

the bmw appeals as it is raw and aggresive. ditch run flats and away. i did see 3-4 of them under 100k before i flew out and thought it'd be happy days, have seen one for sale since and that's 130k.

the cayman s really appeals as i have read rave reviews and talked to asterix about his. i like the size, ability and interior, but there are a lot of them around [shirt = far picky gheyer i know]. manual box seems rare and +20k over a std one tho.

the early 911 idea is due to me knowing i'd keep it til i die, but people keep telling me to get one in a few years when [IF!] i'm still here, have a villa with parking, space to work on it etc. sensible, but very much head > heart.

it's easy to say 'get a sensible daily' but not to adhere to it when you've no wife/kids/ties and won't be racking up much in the way of miles.

can't get on the bizzle at work but:

amg saloons are lovely i'm sure, but a bit old man.

the sl i'm still on the fence over. my colleague is deliberating over the very tidy 560sl we saw yesterday. spotless, with a tamed beast purring away up front.

i've said before ican see me in an r107 sl, but the money required for a good one does not seem like good value.

don't worry, i'm annoying myself already, so can imagine you all wtf-ing. at this rate, chilli will buy a bike before i buy a car! hehe

The Cayman S is a wonderful car. Have you driven one?
just read this on another thread:

Asterix said:
I've had the Cayman S up to an indicated 165mph. It still had revs to go and was still pulling so I guess it would redline and hit max speed.
and so intend to test drive one soon biggrin

Good find.
I review all manual Porsches for sale every day in the hope that I'll be able to man-maths my way around having a seven months pregnant wife!

I keep failing, but that car is a peach. No useless nav or phone module, just the good stuff. Black on black with Turbo rims and red belts - epic mix for the shirt around town...

What's this about a convertible 'grale?
linky no worky, what was it?

i review about 6-7 early porsche classified sites 3-4times a week. i'm becoming obsessed.

first ever go in a lhd manual today, doesn't feel as odd as i thought it would. shame the roads were so dull.

convertible grale has been done, a one of for gianni agnelli. looks odd with such tall glass on a shortened chassis. a travesty to willingly do this to such a nice car imo.

my thoughts exactly. there's also an e46 m3 on there with less miles for less money.

this is one of my bugbears here, a mediocre condition car with a minty mcmint pricetag just because it's rare. when i was at al awir with del, they had a scabby ferrari 328 up for 400k and a diablo for 1million!

what's going on with the grille?
where can i find a buyer's guide?
how long is the drive to fujairah and any hassles re: registering in dxb?

the grille - by which there isn't one, not even the bits either side of the centre section. federalised elises [eli?] should have an egg crate grille and the touring pack [which this should have if it has a/c] adds front fogs.

will email the seller tomorrow.

Fix that mechanically but leave the patina as it is bar a good clean of the interior. It would be wonderful.

Or...

http://dubai.dubizzle.com/classified/autos4x4s/jag...
the problem being that to buy it and have it running strong mechanically would cost the same as buying a good un in the first place. chassis must be fecked.

i will bet good money that cayenne doesn't exist. stock photos, mileage picked out of thin air, usual bum advert.

the m5 looks great and if it's time based service as opposed to every X km, it's a great price.

Good spot. Whats the point? Ambush on arrival to view or a dodgy cheque/BACS transaction stitch up?
there's a few i see for muscle cars and the like, where the US dealer plates are clearly visible. google the dealer and you usually find it's priced a fair few grand cheaper taking import duties into account. these jokers expectyou to pony up, then they'll buy and import the car for you. yeah. right.
