"Modern Classics" 40 minute race series
Discussion
I do apologise if this has been covered, I had a brief skim of the thread and I couldn't see it mentioned.
I'm planning to join the series next year, but am struggling to find out how to make the car conform to the safety regs, specifically fire extinguishers and cut off switches. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Stuart, thanks for the reply. Just a quick question - did you mean Yokohama A048 rather than A047? I'm tempted to go down this route as Kumho just seem to expensive and sourcing the Toyo R888 in 255/40/17 guise gives a very restricted set of retailers.
If anyone has any advice on the best place to source any of the tyres mentioned then feel free to let me know! Sizes are 225/45/17 & 255/40/17.
Cheers/John

e36er - I emailed the contacts from the CSCC web site when I needed some info. and they got back to me very quickly. See http://www.classicsportscarclub.co.uk/contact.htm for details. Hugo might be the best place to start.

The best way to sort safety items, cage, firex , etc is to drop along to an event and look see, talk to other drivers and take notes. The safety regs are covered in the MSA Blue Book also.

I don't think they are more expensive than Yoko's? If anyone has any advice on the best place to source any of the tyres mentioned then feel free to let me know! Sizes are 225/45/17 & 255/40/17.

Kevin at EMC recommended the Dunlop DG03 as well. As they originally built the car a few years ago I'm planning on taking it up there for them to give it the once over, let me have any recommendations and get the tyres fitted by their supplier.
I thought about buying some used sets from eBay as the prices look pretty keen, but in the end I'd prefer the peace of mind of a new set.
Hopefully I'll see some of you on track in the near future! I'll be the one with the novice sticker...

ok but don't say I didn't tell you what the better tyre was.
I have to agree - we put Kumho's on my brother's Viper... 305s front and 335 rears K61 compound (medium) - nothing would touch it around Bedford. I know that a track day is different from a race, but there was a smattering of GT3s (996/7s), 996 Cup Car, Nobles and all sorts of M3s and all of them except the Cup Car got lapped...wadsapple said:

I find the facilities wanting, the drivers changing room down the bottom was appalling and last year we were stuck in a field of mud which didnt go down to well generally I find the paddock very poor. The track is kinda OK but make a mistake and it will hurt as its very unforgiving. I will say in its favour the restraunt was open reasonably late on the Saturday. Also the pits are a bit odd to say the least.
Tom,
Don't worry - you can always say 'I told you so' as you lap me...!
Actually, in all fairnessI did look into the Kumho (no point in canvassing opinion if you ignore it), but couldn't find it in 255/40/17 guise, so it seemed a non-starter. Actually, to be clear, Kumho list them as an available size, but none of the dealers I was looking at listed them.

A few 'locals' have said the same thing although wen mentioned its apparent that those with motorhomes don't need the use of showers etc!! they do need to spend some money on things they may not seem that important where others think differently.
