Yes its true, I am coming out to play. Be gentle with me. It will be my first race in 18 months.

I have bought a budget spec Porsche 924S from Ireland to race. It was last used in the Irish Porsche Open series and was originally a PCGB Class 3 car, so pretty basic and nothing to adjust/ confuse!

I have had a scrutineer mate of mine check it over and had his list of jobs acted upon so the car is recommissioned and ready to go (Irish scrutineering standards appear to be different to our own!). Its a bit scruffy but what the hell? I had it out at Mallory on a track day yesterday and it performed fine.

I doubt that It will be that quick against the BMWs and Honda S2000's in my class (my 150 Bhp Vs their 250!) but I am really looking forward to racing again, although I know I will be nervous as hell on Saturday. I think that it will prove to be a good low budget level car to race.

NJH is also right about the grid sizes and the number of Porsches coming out in both Modern Classics and Future Classics. FC is full and so the 5 reserves for that race will get to race with us in MC giving MC about 23 cars.

Hi Andy,

Looking forward to seeing you out this weekend and that all goes well. Being Irish I must take you up with your comment " Irish Scrutineering standards different to our own ", to my knowledge of competing in Ireland and the UK over the past 1000 years I'd say our Irish Standards are the equal or even higher than UK ones. Most of our races run closer to FIA Standards than UK ones. Knowing the car myself, having raced against it 8 or more years ago I suspect it has either deteriorated or been messed with. My pal Liam Dowling imported it from the UK circa 2004 and it was a very competitive and fast car then, however subsequent owners/drivers may have changed things.

Enjoy your race !

Dave

Was hoping that I could have done 750mc on Saturday, then Roadsports on Sunday at Donington but sadly both on the same day

Hi Dave

I didn't mean to be rude but there were certainly some oddities with the car - the hi viz light was wired up to the brakes, the wiring was messed with, the exterior extinguisher button wiring had been cut so no external way of operating the extinguisher, the extinguisher was ancient, and this was all on a car that had relatively recent scrutineering stickers! Nothing too difficult to sort though and I enjoyed it at a Mallory track day last weekend and am looking forward to driving it again this Saturday.

I assume you meant MC on Saturday at Donington and 750 Roadsports at Silverstone. Yes, a shame that you could not be out with us but such is life, I think there's about 3 people racing with 750 that are also CSCC members. MC has a good grid. At the last count it was 24 MC cars, including some new ones to the series, plus the 5 reserves from the full Future Classics grid.

Yep - 750MC Roadsports is on Saturday so it clashes - think it's 24 on grid plus the SGT's - should be fun and using the F1 pits !

Good luck at Donington - we'll try and make another CSCC race before the end of season

Looking forward to a bit of rain - haven't had the chance to race in the rain this year - how often can you say that in the UK !! Mind you had plenty in pre season testing, and snow, and fog etc etc

Up to 26 plus SGT's now!

Good luck to all my CSCC mates - but lure of 'The Wing' was just too much this time.

I have bought a cheap 924S for the 1801-2500cc class. The car is a simple spec - built originally to PCGB Class 3 so nothing is adjustable and standard power. The car handles well and its cheap motorsport (hopefully). My local Porsche breaker has already said that if I blow the engine I can have one off him for £350. A lot to be said for that!

As for the weather, the local TV weather forecast has just reported the likelihood of thunderstorms and flash floods for tomorrow. Nice for my first race in 18 months, and first in a RWD car for about 6 years. Not.

Great turnout at Donington, with 27 cars in the race.

Somehow the rain held off after a horribly slippy qualifying!

Hopefully David Kempton in the BMW M3 E36 is OK; he crashed out at Redgate from P2 due to brake failure. The car looks a write-off, and I heard he had a broken wrist?

Was pretty pleased with 2nd overall in our 944 smile

Was a big off for one of our cars.... Dave Kempton is ok but he has sustained a broken wrist and took a big knock. All said could have been a lot worse, the car is scrap but did it's job and the cage/seat/hans worked well.

Driver reported brake fade the lap before and then total failure entering the braking zone for Redgate.

My thanks to those who helped with the logistics post crash -

Tom, glad to hear that Dave is okay, it was big hit. I'm pleased he was wearing a Hans, too. Could have been a very different outcome with that sort of impact.

Yes, that's the one. I really enjoyed my first race for a long while. We had some electrical niggles and brake issues but the car handled well. It only has a standard engine and i'm not that quick but what the hell, it was good to be out there racing. It's cheap motorsport really and I had fun and that's the main thing.
