Hello All,
Just remembered about this thread - my workmate Mo and I started the SouthSea MC 12 car (Monkey Puzzle) in october, but had to pull out half way as Mo (the driver) got sick.
It was really good up till then, great roads and a real brain challenge!
This Friday past, my fiend Graham and I did the Sevenoaks MC 12 car and did much better. We cleaned the rally (no time dropped and got all the route checks) and finished first novice. We lost out on the tie break so got 3rd overall in the end. We did that in my huge Volvo XC70 which proves you didn't need a real rally car to have fun. Again it was brilliant fun.
There are plenty of 12 cars around the South - there are probably at least 3 a month over the winter. PM if you want to know more.
We were the other "Novice" crew on Friday's 12-car... Should have been a piee of cake as like you we had the complete route from the start, so did not have to plot the route like the others just follow the black line.... however we got completely lost on last leg and came last
Cheers

It doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Is it really tearing along open public roads at night were you can't anything or more importantly anyone?
I realise this is an old post, but worth addressing imo.Road rallies have existed since the 1950's, and whilst the format does indeed sound like it might not be a terribly good idea, the simple fact is that the sport has an *excellent* safety record.
One measure of this is that (depending on the type of event) you will need to take insurance out because your own policy won't cover for a timed event.
The organisers arrange for this policy to be taken out, and the premiums are peanuts at just a few quid.
Yes as above, on event 3rd party insurance is about £15.00, which covers a 12 hour period, usually paid for through the Club at the start. It's the same (roughly) for a 12 car as it is for a full blown 180 mile Road Rally.
You genuinely don't here about many accidents involving the public, though I've seen plenty of Cars through Hedges, Walls, in Ditches etc etc on events, (though not on 12 Cars to be fair).

We're you in the Mini? I remember seeing you going the other way to us so we double double checked our route. Really good fun night. Next for us will be the Scatter on 11 Dec. Never done a scatter before so expect us to get lost all the time!

Just noticed south sea motor club are running a 20/20 this weekend, which means 20 cars 20 controls, about 120 miles. Good to see the South East area being used for this
Are any of you entered ?
I competed in this last night, went on from 1030-0330 this morning! There were 13 cars overall that ran, and I think everyone got in on time, no OTL and only one accident. (Pics below)Are any of you entered ?

I love stage rallying and I've really enjoyed the "tours" I've been on which were based on road rally routes...but....but... I have to say I part company with Road Rallying when crews are "on it" on open public roads in thick fog. Sorry
I must say, I've been on a road rally in thick fog, and all I can say is that no-one was 'on it' in the fog we were in. You just can't see a single thing beyond the bonnet in real fog, especially on unclassified roads where there,s barely a single reflective surface anywhere to be seen..heebeegeetee said:
