This topic is sadly turning very sour.

As said, the series was set up by AMOC for all the banned cars, so if you don't like what Ellis has done, thats very sad.

Amazing what a few guys in a shed can do! David is probably very rusty, not racing since around 1993. How would you cope jumping into a car with around 900bhp?? per tonne.

It was highly entertaining watching the Alfa pass and pull away from the V8, I would have paid to go to Silverstone just to listen to it.

I just hope we get to see more battles in Super GT next year.
Spot on !
+1

It's why I'm in! And it's why I'm going to get my backside in gear and start the next project, similar vein to my current barn door, but more refined!!!

I'm also looking at an ex-SCCA Trans-AM GTA class car with mods as another idea....
Honest, it is a Pontiac Grand Prix.
Rob,

I found this last night and thought of SGT.

http://www.race-cars.com/carsales/other/1232572209...

Could be a giggle, and make a few quid renting it out.

Pontiac you say, do keep me updated, could be fun. Will this one be called Parry? smile

Hmmmm Austin Somerset Buick Sommerset, different. The V6 was the lump used successfully by many ASA oval track racers, as well as the Trans-Am dominating Chevy Beretta of 1990 driven by Tom Kendall, so there are lots of off the shelf parts for it.

The Pontiac Grand Prix GTA car runs a Howe chassis, with a 5-Star "ABC" composite body. Powered by a 430hp Lingenfelter tuned Chevy Vortec (LS1), driving through a Jerico 4 speed, and a Winters Quick-Change rear axle. The same chassis in a different configuration was used in the ASA Hooters Pro Cup (an Oval series), and over here in the ASCAR/SCSA series.
GTA ran bigger brakes, and could put a proper wing on the back - even though the NASCAR-esque spoiler works very well.
Many GTA runners tweaked their engine to 500hp+ which is fairly easy. I could always drop Harry's engine in there, which might just be an idea......

Name - don't know yet. Harry is simples! Harry Belamonte!!! I'd have to thing up something tenuous to do it properly!

As far as I see it, Super GT was set up to cater for the unwanted (as already stated). The argument of silhouettes has cropped up many times before with other series', but then again what is a Mod Sports cars?

There are a lot of cars out there that would cream the GT700R many a time, but most have yet to show their face in Super GT. I can categorically say that with what is on the table for 2010, Super GT will be attracting many more monsters. Meaning it will defiantly not be a one man show.

I cannot promise anything at this point, but my god, we are so close to having a cracking race series.
On that basis I retract my moansabout the Ellis thing, and get of my high horse (though how I'd ever get on a high horse is beyond me!) - (though personally I still beleieve it should have more in common that that car as with a road Aston - like I said the rules as they are would allow a Top Fuel Funny car in) - Ha at least you make it to the first corner first, then the rest woul crash when you release the parachutes wink

Lets hope these other cars DO Come Out.

Andy I think you will need more than an LS3 to get neat that thing and these Faster things.

If it was me I'd have the old XJ220 and the "detuned" 890bhp race engine (the original type but SC'd not turbo'd) I saw for sale a while back! Everything about that car is basically as it was built just tweeked in all areas wink

I'd have a EuroBoss car and throw over a fibreglass Austin Maxi body - lol!!
I wonder if Super GT has registered much with Al Weyman - he could probably run his Penske-built IROC Camaro in it.
As for 2010 - fingers crossed!! wink

If only that old M8 with the Corvair Body is not still about (well when I say a pity - I'd rather see it as it originally was!). 8.8litre Reynolds Block Mmmm.

Thats right Johnny.I think the people are a little confused about The Ellis Machine. It is a very quick car yes and is wonderful to see.But it still needs sorting and of course with David not only having to learn the car after each update he has to learn the circuit. Having said that when David gets it going properly it would be interesting to see how it fairs against the Chamberlain Machine and Moslers. Bring on 2010.We must not forget that Matt Chamberlains beautiful car will be running next year and if Matt joins the series we will be in for the Father Vs son Battle and not only that but David Ellis' son John may be building up the old chassis and running a second Ellis Machine. We may even have the old Malcolm Hamilton V12 E-Type if has been rebuilt in time. This series has Huge potential.

It would be nice to see ellis' old chassis rebuilt, just a bare chassis when I saw it.

I would love to know what cars (On paper anyway) could 'cream' Ellis' car, it could be fantastic to see the E-Type back racing again. Shame Mr Marsh will only come out to play when he has a winning car.

Felix, you are right.... The series has huge potential! Lets hope AMOC realise that.

The Marsh V8 with the Ellis Engine would float my boat, or even the 4v heads it has been mooted to be getting - they should forget that Truck of a DB7 V12.

In theory no car could cream the Ellis car if properly sorted and had a driver on top form.
The E-Type won't race again unless the current owner gets 6 numbers, not meant in a harsh way but a reality due to it's specialness.
Geoffrey for years has supported the AMOC so a bit harsh to to say he only comes out when he has a winning car as A he does things properly and comes out when the car is how it should be and B he hasn't always had a winning car, trust me, a lot of his victories were down to my Dad'd driving, not the car.

But he still has his DB4? But it wont win against Scragg's V8.... Very true though, the Mallock's, Pearson etc didn't seem to do anything compared to how Gerry drove The Marsh cars.

You might have to explain the six number thing to me???????

Any possibility of negociating a noise waiver for Super GT at the June 2010 St John Horsfall meeting, 75th Anniversary of AMOC and all that ?Simon.

6 numbers...Unless he wins the lottery......

Discussing matters at the weekend, it seems that Geoffrey only wants Anthony to drive the car, but Anthony seems to have been a little pre-occupied with driving a Beemer in the MSA National Banger Racing Series.

Another good driver for it would be that bloke who drives that red Jag - always seems to qualify in last place, and never manages much more than a lap......... Oh, that's Syd in the fire tender! Silly me!

I'll be honest, I can't really afford to be out there, but I have finally made it!

I love the ethos of Super GT, and as Andy said, it isn't all about power.

If you cain't make the turns, you cain't get to victory lane!! (a bit of a Daryl Waltrip-ism)(words that were ringing in my ears last weekend on my cardboard casters where tyres should have been)

The wide and varied machinery makes the series great. Yes, I think it'd be great to see Al Weyman's IROC Camaro out - he was worrying that he'd have no place to race it, but here it is. That car has some real history about it - once driven by the likes of Mario Andretti, Al Unser, and others IIRC.

Something with 12 cylinders in a W formation perhaps? Like a Napier Lion stuffed up the front of a Bentley maybe Hmm? I love that car!

Can you not have a word with Geoffrey to see if you could borrow the 6 for the 1 hours next year!? The top 4/5 and 6's were only a few second off Scragg. Maybe you Dad could have made up the difference. The few time the Marsh Cars came out in the TSCC only you father was running right at the front, yep the Mallock and Pearson were just not on the front running pace (have several on vidoeo). I'd have loved to have had the Pearson car and had a proper race with you dad and McCarthy at Thuxton wink

I think if we would all want to see the Hamilton Car back. Its the XJ220s,Hamilton,Chamberlain,Marshall,Ellis and many others that made that Era for me.We are on a good track to getting these Cars back out. Don Law has expressed interest we just need Justin to get in the seat. From what i have heard Anthony Reid was over 3 Seconds Quicker than Gerry was in the Marsh Plant car.It shows what a Peddler like Anthony can do with a Car like that.

Geoffrey sold the DB4 Dad raced last year but he has another that he built for Gary Pearson or a Mallock to drive and it is a better car then Dad's one was - lessons learnt, etc.

As Rob said, 6 numbers meant as a lottery win.

Felix, you may be around these cars but you obviously haven't noticed the car is a completey different animal to when Dad raced it and I'm assuming you mean around Donington - Anthony would not be able to beat Dad's times and is the first person to admit it.
Dad only raced the Aston at Donington twice and one of those was infamous accident with Richard's Porsche and he hadn;t had much mileage in the car - Anthony was well prepared for running the car.

So not only has it been further developed in the two season's Dad raced it Geoffrey has now developed it more:-
It now has power steering which is a huge thing with the weight of the car and the downforce it generates (remember the guy who designed just happens to run the current F1 world champion and constructors championship winning car)
It has more Aero on it now too - see above
It now has a sequential gearbox
It weighs less
They have learnt a hell of a lot about the telemetry which they didn't know before
