What does a man have to do to get a race licence?
buy ards pack -50 quid
take medical - 60 quid
take ards test ( 200-400) depending on where and the amount of training first

then you can get the licence - another 45 quid

Andy - yes I have driven it, quite a few times, and every time I do I'm filled with joy when I tread the loud pedal! The last time in proper anger was back in August 2006 at Donington (Britcar V8 Supercars) where the front oil seal p'd life bloods out, and wasn't fixable at the circuit, but took 15 minutes in the workshop with the right tool! It spent 2007 & 2008 sidelined while I played ASCAR.
It is true - it's never finished a race - mostly due to the water issues which I recently found.

I was in that race in my blue Tuscan and I remember you having problems - I'd forgotten you'd been doing ASCAR since then.

Hope you get it sorted and back out there - is it your main racing focus this year?
Yep, it's my main focus. I like the idea that there are not a dozen races, they are a friendly crowd, and we all of a similar "mindset" (hell bent on horsepower!).

I have had a little ray of sunlight shone on me, in that I have been given the details of a company that is know for "raising the dead". It means a trip to Derbyshire, but it's a small price to pay compared to a new pair, hopefully meaning that my season's budget isn't three parts wiped out before I get to press the start button on the motor for the first time.

I do have a plan-B - which is to take the engine out of the ASCAR and put that in the Belmont. It means a fair bit of work to change from carburettor Chevy to LS1 (wiring, plumbing, headers) and losing over 200bhp, but it does mean I'll be out there while I get the big beasty engine sorted. The downside of that is it'll delay my plans for "Son of Harry" a bit.

What I want to know right now is WHERE IS TESCO'S HOME DELIVER WITH MY 24PACK OF CARLSBERG! I'M THIRSTY AND THEY'RE LATE!

What number as we talking here ASCAR LS1 vs the Bigger (unreliable) lump (been there!).

Mind would the LS not drop the power sufficent that it would be in Class B?? Meant be competitive in that class till the Big Lump is sorted out.

Good luck getting it sorted.

So whats the crack with Super gt, is it absolutely, completely and totally inappropriate for a complete and utter novice.
I fancy doing a bit of racing but do not want to get serious or drive a fiesta. What I do have is a car with potential.

Like what?? What have you got.

Super Gt is about extremeley modded version of road car that have existed, they can be really extreme (the Ellis car) or just really tune versions of a road sportscar.

You cn run newer stuff, but slight older stuff is historically what SGT has been about. Twin turbo Stripped Current baby Vantage V8 maybe with north of 500bhp and wings maybe?

Yes, very inappropriate unfortunately.

It would drop into Class B, that's for sure. The work required would be a lot :

Headers (could hand-craft some spares that I have, otherwise it'd be £3K for BTB to make me some)
Fuel system (including tank) [probably about £2K's-worth],
Engine loom + ECU,
Propshaft (I'd use the Jerico transmission from the ASCAR instead of the GM Muncie Rock Crusher, it's a proper race dog-box with ratio's you can change).

Hope to get up to Derbyshire either late this week, or early next week for a quote/idea on whether my pukka head is repairable.

Rob.

No quite serious? From what i have seen of the super GT. Yes there are some very fast cars at the front but also some much slower cars at the back.
I dont see the grid and speed difference as much different to the TVR series? We have a lot of rookies...
Not trying to be difficult or argue, would be intrested as to why you think that.

Guy I am using for my Ford lumpo should be able to make you up a set to your requirements for less than 3k. Let me know if you want his contact details.

It wouldn't be a good starting point because of the speed differences, the cost, the level of driver and team experience, oh, and the cost again.
Without knowing car/budget maybe some of that could be removed but the speed, the speed difference and a lack of experience would concern me but that's what the ARDS test and then novice cross if for.

Listen, Forget the budget issue and what car, as performance would not be an issue.

The question is would I, as a complete Rookie ,be able to compete without it being dangerous and assuming I have a suitable car, reasonable capability and Budget.....

How much would be needed to have some fun and run in the middle assuming I already have the car?

Would there be an alternative series....the only place I have had mentioned that would be suitable for the car, is from memory, something called GT90...or something like that anyway.

From my standpoint(My opinion only) I'd rather not be out in a race like this (Bloody quick cars) if there were people racing that had not done at least enough to get a National A license (i.e. 10 races) even if they have not bothered upgrading to one - ha you might even need one.

I presume the car is mentally fast then - why not telling us what it is? Why start with something Utterly Bonkers if fisrt time racing. Whole different story to this track day lark.
