It wasn't a accident. The term accident suggests a mishap, and/or lack of intention.

Clearly not accidental.

If it was me he crashed into, I think i'd be still be inserting things into him. I dont think Id ever tire of inserting things into him

Hello Pat we've bumped into each other a couple of times on the first lap back in the stock hatch 205' days I agree with you this was not an accident or incident (which could be fair enough) this was a nasty crashed into / barged off effort and points and a fine are not really enough MSA ban is what he should get.

Same as in UK law, it is very difficult to prove intent so the clerk can only go on the evidence which is bad driving and correctly penalised. The clerk was probably thinking that he wished he could ban him but without on board telepathy the option wasn't open to him. And although we all think it was intentional, we don't really know either. I won't be joining this guy on a grid based on the video though!!!

Just seen this.

That was blatant, and from where I sit there's simply no way the driver didn't know what he was doing.

He needs a ban before he damages someone permanently.

I think the intent question is irrelevant. Its pretty clear he saw the car as you can see him glance in the mirror and the guys video camera is looking straight back at him. From that point there is only three possibilities:

1) He did it on purpose;
2) He didn't think the car was along side his rear quarter so thought he was just closing him off;
3) His brain didn't register that the car was there despite looking straight at it.

Personally I don't want to be on track with anyone who fits any of those outcomes, 1 is ban stuff, 2 & 3 is lacking the basic competence required to race safely.

Can I be the person that says there are 2 sides to every accident.

I guess we'll never know if he saw Darren coming and moved to block/push him off. Yes he glanced right but that doesn't mean he saw him.

I had a good go at trying to kill (joke) a mate at Combe many years ago. I moved across after missing a gear. Didn't see him or know he was already alongside. ( i got points for this as well )

Good God! Assume he was a bit shaken up after that! eek

He was in hospital for a couple of days. I always thinks its like a that bit in twister when that tractor drops out of the sky! What you don't see is that I stop and run over to the car, that's leaking fuel. Switch the electrics off and then realize he's unconscious and slumped down in his seat so that his belts are across his windpipe. I make the decision to release his belts whilst supporting his head and body until the rescue units get there. It was quite a moment.

Next season I played his rear gunner that allowed him to win the champs, so he forgave me wink

Awesome, sounds like you acted well. I can imagine the stick you got for that, never letting you forget etc. hehe

Needs banning.

Shocking behaviour. He should be bloody glad he still has a license and take the punishment with all due humility and contrition. His bullishness only proves that he has thoroughly earned a ban.

For the benefit of those who haven't read into it, the "red car nutter" is 64 years old.

That was horrible to watch. frown I'm so pleased you're ok and able to race another day dude!

I competed in grass roots motor sport back in 2005/6 and had a crash too, although nowhere near the speed or impact of that! But I know what it's like to be in that position where you're a passenger watching the inevitable unfold.

As for the other driver, if his actions were deliberate (and I guess we'll never really know without a shadow of a doubt) then I agree with everyone that he should be banned for life. Regardless of whether it was deliberate or not, his attitude after the race was disgraceful! I'm guessing he didn't even check to see if you were ok?! I don't know how you kept your cool with him. I'd have knocked him out!

Bloody hell I just watched that and really felt for you as I saw that wall coming! I really hate those island thingy's to be honest. Very glad you're ok.

I don't understand that level of competitiveness in clubman racing. We are all out there to have fun and yeah it's nice to win but jeez we have to repair our own cars and stuff. I would hate to be responsible for causing someone to smash their car up and hurt themselves myself.
