Final update of the year, not sure if anyone's reading anymore lol. But this weekend I won the 2020 750 MC sports 1000 championship.

Congratulations! Considering it's (what?) your third season that's quite some achievement.

Second full season, only had a couple of outings in the first season. It's a lot of effort prepping, trailering the car there, sleeping mostly rough, racing then towing home again! Even rebuilt my own engines. It's been worth it though. It's the first time in quite a while that a privateer has won this Championship. Probably only the second time in about 10 years.

Bit of a condensed race 1 video from Snett

https://youtu.be/BohEE-nr7f0

Definitely need to work on my wet setup so I can gain some more confidence in the car in conditions other than bone dry, quite snappy. Also my wets are a bit knackered and as old as the hills so I'll be ordering a new set. Race 2 wasn't very interesting so I won't bother doing one for that.

Congratulations on the championship, good effort. It's great to see the team included in the footage at the end too, they were right.
Thanks very much! One was my best mate and the other a good friend and fellow competitor, he was already in his normal clothes because he caused the red flag laugh

First meeting done on the Silverstone National circuit.

Weekend started with really good pace in the first session of testing and went down hill from there. Half way through the second session the engine was shifting progressively worse to the point where I couldn't get any gears.

Brought the car in and after some thought I decided that there was a good chance that the issue was the gear selector, detent or shift star on the end of the shift drum.

To get to this meant removing the entire clutch and basket. Upon removing the shaft it was clear that the selector arm on the end of it was knackered with a split in it which had allowed it to widen and therefore not fully engage gears anymore.

Jacked the car up and manually popped it through the gears by turning the shift drum to verify all was well, then set about stripping my spare engine for the parts to repair it.

Got that done by the end of the day and managed to run it up for a few laps to verify. Was a relief as an engine change would've been a real pain to do at the track.

On to race day, qualified third, put new tyres on and they were awful. It's always best to scrub them in first in testing so they can do a heat cycle but what with testing being a disaster that didn't happen.

On to race two, I finished third on the road after a bit of a battle but ultimately had to concede. Our fastest laps split by one hundredth of a second, but unfortunately I was suffering a top speed deficit that made it more difficult to be consistently fast over race distance and they pulled a small gap.

It later transpired that I won the race as the leaders picked up a disqualification for ride height. Not how you want to win but it is what it is.

Race 2 was a strange one, a large section of the track had a lot of oil down and the car felt horrible through it, plus I wasn't prepared to push my luck and come away with a DNF so early in the season so got up to a steady pace, but was caught 5 laps from the end. Managed to hold on until the second to last lap when I suffered fuel starvation whilst side by side and it just allowed him to squirt it past me on the power. Was gutted after that but these things happen. Still managed to pick up second.

So all in all a decent weekend. With a win and a second on a track that I knew I would struggle on due to the disadvantage in top speed Vs the other marque of cars, however I know my car has its advantages elsewhere and this would be my bogey track.

Here's the fastest lap I managed of the weekend from Race 1, only a tenth faster than I did on Friday morning in testing, but it was a lot more windy on race day which hampered us...

I caught some of the event on YouTube, including the start of your 2nd race
It is surprisingly good coverage for clubs level racing.
Cheers thumbup

Yeah I was impressed with the footage, seems to be getting better every year and with that the club are attracting better championship sponsors too.

Thoroughly enjoyed racing at croft this weekend.

There was a bit of an issue with ride height checks being done incorrectly after race 1 and our results had a number of DQs that were appealed and then the DQs removed and results reinstated. Took the enjoyment out of it a bit as it added controversy and stress.

Qualified on pole and won the first race setting a new lap record, after being closely followed for the duration.

Second race I got a slightly average start off the line and was the punted off into hawthorn then collected as a span round. Managed to get back up to 4th with the front end hanging off the car and the splitter hanging off and missing a huge chunk.

Car was horrible to drive and I had it in the back of my head that something could be bent or about to fail on me. When we came in one of the splitter mounts that was snapped had been wearing through the tyre, so I was lucky not to have a blow out.

All in all a 1st and 4th, not so bad. Leading the championship by a reasonable margin. Pissed off I have damage to repair through no fault of my own but that's racing for you.

Here's a fast one from testing ..

Just got back from snetterton on the 300 circuit. Briefly summed up ..

Very hot all weekend, very greasy track and the pace was way off what we normally do, but same for everyone.

Qualified on pole, wound up second to a much faster car in a straight line for most of the race and had to be very patient and try to develop an opportunity to pass. Ended up passing on the second to last lap.

https://youtu.be/1Emd_gAPYFA

Second race ended up third with a track limits penalty but still got fastest lap.

We are now are the half way point and I have a 30 something point lead, Anglesey next so long as the Welsh government don't cancel it..!

This weekend at Oulton Park closed out another season in Sports 1000 with 750mc and I'm delighted to say I have won the championship again to retain the number 1 for next season.

Came away with P1 in qualifying after totally fking it into shell and getting back on circuit with sidepods full of gravel!

P2 in race 1 after a poor start, dropped to 5th, back to 3rd in 3 corners... On the second Lap another car dropped coolant and had me off at druids. Dropped back to 5th and fought back to second and took the lap record on the last lap.

P1 in race 2, lead from the front.

Here's a onboard from quali

Congratulations on the championship.

That seemed to snap out of control so quickly, but then read that you got your foot caught.

Hislop’s look a lot less intimidating without the tyres on the apex, threatening to take your bodywork if you’re an inch too close.
Yep very silly mistake on my part but these things happen. I'm a big lad and the pedal box is quite tight so sometimes I have to think about how I'm moving my feet around more than I'd like.

Still lots to come from me and this car, looking forward to trying for a 3rd title next season. After that.. who knows.

Would love to go onto bigger things but the reality is Motorsport is for money people and I'm just a working class lad.

2023 Season opener is upon us - we are heading to croft this weekend. It is one of our "Sprint weekends" which means 3x 15 min races instead of the usual 2x 20min.

Testing Friday, quali and race 1 Saturday, Race 2 & 3 Sunday.

It will be live streamed Sat and Sun, no link yet but I'll post it or you can find it on 750mc website / search alpha live on YouTube if interested.

New colours (Porsche jet green) and back to my old no.54 as I came 2nd last season. Lots of struggles in 2022 for various reasons but I am looking forward to getting back out there and think I've got a handle on what went wrong.

If you're in the area pop over and say hi.

Watched the Saturday afternoon Sports 1000 race on YouTube.
Blimey! What a last lap!
You were so close to a win.
Yeah not the ending I wanted but a good race nonetheless, very tricky when lapping cars and you've got fast cars on your tail, felt like I had to go for it. 3rd not so bad in the end.

Won both races today, race 3 was pretty straightforward but race 2 definitely worth a watch as was race 1. Lots of Argy bargy at the end but we kept it mostly clean and safe biglaugh

Summary for me is that I had the pace all weekend and knew I could do the business today, a poor qualifying made the job harder and got me sucked into unnecessary battles and croft is a tricky circuit to make overtakes stick and it was bloody tricky navigating lapped cars at 10/10ths too as you will see in the videos!!!

Saturday race 1 about 4hr20 in

Race 2 was a belter. Wasn't sure if you were going to make it past the other driver (Paul Smith?).

Race 3 was a bit close at Clervaux on the restart. Thought the 7 had made contact with you

Well done, you were certainly the class of the field. Good luck with the rest of the season
Yep the restart was ridiculous I think they cocked it up, the lights literally flickered on and straight back off again and i wasn't ready for it at all! By the by now though, all good fun.
