Just a quick post to say THANK YOU to all the people who visited our stand at the Autosports show.
And a special THANK YOU to those who ordered cars/parts.

Paul
Hi Paul,

It was great to see you at the Show, sorry we didnt have time to chat but we had our own stand which was exceptionally busy. I loved the car you had on display in the PH members area

It's always a pleasure to meet true enthusiasts who do things for the love of the sport and I'm quite excited at the prospect of Max5 racing.

I'll give you a shout in a few days to discuss further and it's great to see the number of cars increasing. We've always considered the Mazda to be one of the best chassis to go and play on track and a number of our members are owners already.

Can you email me through my profile with some contact details as i had far too many bits of paper to sift through and I have a number of ideas that you might like.

Dear All

Just a confirmation update on a few points on this topic:

1. Ma5da Racing 2010.
We have a series of 4 events and 8 races during 2010 for the mk3, known as the Ma5da MX5 Cup. This could have been a class Championship of the existing mk1 but it was decided to make it a separate Championship for 2011 by meeting all the regulations set by the MSA. However we have published a full MSA Winter Championship for the mk3, 2 events and 4 races. 2 at Donington and 2 races at Brands Hatch. (see below for brochure including calendar)

The mk1 will remain a separate MX5 Championship and the mk3 is not a replacement, but a natural progression. It is expected that only 20% of the existing drivers will migrate, the remainder will be from other more expensive Championships. It was decided that to have a successfull Championship for the mk3 it must have it's own grid space, which it does, and that due to the current economic climate it would be better to have a year of build up in advance of the 2011 Championship. This will ensure that in excess of 30 cars will be ready to race in 2011.

Current uptake for the mk3 is 17 committed cars and drivers with free registrations opening at 5pm on Monday 25th January 2010.

2. mk3 Specification.
The Ma5da MX5 Cup is based on the 2.0ltr MX5 Sport and will be the only eligible car for the 2011 championship. Why? Simple really, Mazda have already produced the MX5 Cup racing in Japan, USA, Italy and Belgium over the past 2 years and during discussions with Mazda UK it was identified that they wanted to keep the UK mk3 racing the same. Also the 2.Lt come standard with a slip diff and 6 speed gearbox and was originally chosen for its reliability by Mazda.

Before you build a bridge, first you must design it, as the saying goes. Ma5da Racing took the view that a successfully Championship must first have a road map and specification before being launched. To this effect you must also have an equally race car if you wish to have a single make, single class championship. The 1.8ltr and 2.0ltr ruining together distorts this and even if you try to ballast power to weight it leaves success in the pocket of the owner. In the Ma5da MX5 Cup, you will not be able to buy your way to the front, you will need to drive the car there.

3. Talks between MaX5 and Ma5da Racing.
In November MaX5 were invited to talks over the development of the mk3. This took place at Oulton Park and an outline of the above was promoted to MaX5 for consideration. Talks were due to be reconvened a week later at Brands Hatch, where Ma5da Racing had engaged the assistance of the BRSCC, GAZ shocks and the Ma5da Co-ordinators. Unfortunately MaX5 decided not to attend the meeting, although they were present at the circuit. The article in Autosport was accurate and to today we have not had any further contact, although the MaX5 cars have been invited to attend any of the 2010 series of races, but unfortunately only the 2.0ltr will be eligible for the winter Championship or 2011 Ma5da MX5 Cup.

I hope this clarifies some of the points raised, but feel free to ask any further questions.

One final note, Ma5da have 7 built cars currently with the first car being built by Paul Sheard back in 2008. If you are interested in more details the following brochures may help? Ma5da Racing can currently build a mk3 in less than two weeks to full 2011 Championship specification.

2010 Ma5da MX5 Cup (mk3) - http://www.ma5daracing.com/2010/files/mk3.pdf

Hope this helps?

Kind regards

Jonathan,

I have always said it is not my intention to fall out with anyone involved in Mazda related activity and I don't intend to start now. It is however a constant surprise to me how your understanding of our conversations differs from my understanding of our conversations. Your point 3 in particular is rather a distortion. Rather than, as it suggests, a day created by yourself and Ma5da Racing you were actually on my Mazda on Track trackday where you took full advantage of the facilities including filming. You were sent a message that since you were using my day to promote Ma5da Racing that Mazda on Track would like to benefit in some promotional way from this, which you chose to ignore and although MSV gave us full opportunity to prevent you filming, I allowed it to take place.
The meeting that you wanted Paul Roddison and I to attend with the BRSCC was a was a very hardly convenient as I explained to Bob Marsh just after lunch when he said to me "the BRSCC guy is here, can you come and talk to him, he only has a couple of hours?" I told Bob that I was in the middle of my working day with paying customers all around me and so I was not at liberty to just take an hour out, to which he said he understood. There was no further invitation offered to another meeting, even when I came to say goodbye to everyone.

If the Autosport article you refer to is the one from the end of December then it initially started out as a press release issued by me, which I am lead to believe you were then allowed to comment on and it is effectively your comments that were published. I know this because this is what you told me by phone call after Brands where you discussed a lot of other topics, so it would be untrue to say no contact has been made since and additionally my business partner has been trying to contact you, but so far you have not managed to return any of his calls.

I attach a copy of the original press release text and also extend the same kind offer to Ma5da Racing to take part in any of the MaX5 Championship rounds in 2010

Regards
Nick Dougill

MaX5 Racing is delighted to announce the introduction of a Mazda MX-5 MK3 Championship for the 2010 season.

Since 2004 MaX5 has combined the rare qualities of close and highly competitive one make motor racing, combined with a reputation for avoiding body contact, into a highly successful race championship. After years of running the MK1 cars, which ceased production in 1998, the move to the current MK3 car is an exciting development. Building any new race car can be a trying time especially as the original MK1 transferred to race track surprisingly easily and had a fantastic reputation for reliability and so the new car had a lot to live up to. Since Early June 2009 Paul Roddison and Max 5 have been developing the new MK-3 race car, Roddison has run the Mk-3 in every MaX5 race and Mazda based track event since July 2009. With no blots on the reliability sheet and work on MaX5’s Racing’s own rolling road, development pace has been impressive. Engine and transmission components remain standard to prevent unnecessary cost and significant effort has been invested instead in the Colin Chapman principal of “adding lightness” to gain extra speed and improve power to weight rather than tweaking engines. While speed is important, drivers need to be confident in the car to use it and it is good to see that Mazda chassis engineers have lost none of their magic and that the art has moved on in 20 years. The car has very impressive advances in both the braking and handling capabilities over the old cars and is both immediately drivable for novices and extremely rewarding for more competent drivers with delightful all round performance; even the noise is right!

Development continues for 2010 and further weight reduction is planned with advances being shared across all drivers to ensure equality. This principal is also applied to engines with the in house rolling road facilities being available for car set up and while it is important to check that no cars are “overly endowed” equally important that no car is hindered by being under powered either.

As 2009 draws to a close, MaX5 have numerous MK3 race cars built with more following during the closed season before the first races in spring 2010, MaX5 looks forward to an exciting race season next years with new cars and a brand new media and TV coverage package.

Come and see the cars in January at the AutoSport show 2010, MaX5 and their sponsors look forward to showing you exciting new driver opportunities for 2010.

Is it just me or is there nothing more boring than two people/organisations both into the same things, slagging each other on the internet..

It does you both a dis-service.. can you just talk about your relevant championships/series and leave the politics to Brown..( actually I think my goldfish could do a better job than him but you get my drift hehe )

As an outsider that bumps into both camps now and then I wish you both success but please keep the dirty washing private!!!!
