Not fair to compare a top spec diesel to a 3.2 Boxster, which aren't quick by today's standards.
How does the Audi compare to a 911 Turbo of the same vintage?
Modern diesels are impressive but are as emotive as a washing machine. Plus they smell, you have to wear the glove of shame when filling up and they sound like the top end is about to evacuate the block.

Obviously not as quick as the turbo especially once it's wound up. My point is that diesels have come a long way. I have had an RS6 among other things and averaging 12 to the gallon agInst mid 30's is not to sniffed even if you don't do many miles and have deep pockets, and I can tell you that there didn't feel a lot of difference in the performance stakes. There are still some, dare I Say it even on this site, that throw a wobbler as a default position having not driven the latest diesels. Mine even sounds like a V8 if you play with the car set up even if it's manufactured. As has been said winning Le Mans with a diesel has done already.
I've driven modern performance diesels and once the novelty of low down torque has worn off, like I said, emotive my they're like an appliance, regardless of whether you can make them sound like a v8 through a stereo.
Your rs6 comparison Roj is not fair (although I agree that the 12 vs 30+ is hardto ignore regardless of how deep your pockets are)- we have an Alpina b3s Biturbo which is averaging 30mpg, modern performance diesels aren't much better, not enough anyway to make me change.
Plus did I mention diesels smell?

Hi guy's thanks for the welcome yes the diesel part is true i was at the last open day and spoke to a few owners i have been thinking about this for a long time,i have considered lots of things engine type and gearbox plus noise ect and here's my plan already in progress the new jaguar xf 3.0tdv6 fairly quiet powerful but torque was the problem but i now have the gearbox to do the job ricardo ford GT box the only issue i now have is the upset to handling with the possible extra weight as box is heavy but i intend to keep it all as low as possible and forward well as far as driveshaft angle shall permit cheers keep you all posted.
Only diesel that should be fitted is a V8 GM Duramax 6.6L. And if you are going to fit one why not fit one of these:

True, the older ones do smell somewhat. In France where the number and concentration of diesel vehicles is very high, certain specialists of the medical community are starting to ring alarm bells seeing the increase and high levels of micro particles in the air. This seems to be a developing major sanitary problem.Petrol engines are far from dead and cleaner it would seem...
i must agree with some of the very valid comments by all negative and positive but all the petrol stuff has been done and i think the time for highish reving twin turbo diesel has came and listening to most guys the torque of the v8 is kinda what the ultima is also about or i would just put a cosworth or skyline enigine in the thing save weight and rev more but thats not what i want i want to drive as much as i can on road or on track so economy will matter to some degree dont want loads of smoke and smell if mapped good this should be pretty good hp looks not bad and the torque is through the roof gearing is not too bad with my gearbox maybe just have to suck it and see just different like audi at le mans started something when they did that its kinda what got me thinking this route and they are still looking at a diesel r8 i believe oh i was thinking about smell i could run on recycled cooking oil from douhnuts that would smell better mmmm
The Jag V6 3.0 wiesel is a great motor and one of very few I'd consider in a daily-driver. I look forwards to seeing how this project progresses, how it's packaged and how the finished product drives.
I'm with Deadscoob tho'. I feel diesels are best left to mile-munching appliances, rather than performance cars. There's something about the character of petrol engines that can't be replicated by a diesel. The noise & rev-range are key factors in that I think.... then again, I prefer manual gearboxes, unassisted steering and no driver aids, so my views are probably a little outdated, LOL!
