I didn't care for the appearance of the GTR, and I didn't want to have to install air conditioning, so the CanAm became a possible choice. Our climate is a bit dryer and warmer here in NEW England, so a top all the time is not that necessary. It looked promising in the photos, but when Dave McDonald brought one here to the US, and I could see it in person, he had my order. I even had the approval of my wife!!
I hope the heater works well, because it should be finished and ready for the road this winter.

A heater isn't a problem in my car. I don't have one fitted at all, but it still gets damn hot in there

This thread has me foaming in a somewhat rabid fashion.

I've tailed an Ultima and it did look jaw-dropping.

A few questions, oh enlightened few, on this most unusual of exotica.

1.Price diff 'twixt factory & self build?
2.GTR or Can-Am? Any other models and spec diffs?
3.How comfortable on UK roads?
4.How fast - off the mark(-60), past 100 and to 150+?
5.How stable does it brake from warp speed?
6.Handling feel - twitchy or thoroughly planted?
7.Do the windows open and is air-con heresy?
8.And of course, just HOW visceral, ito sound, are they?
9.Reliability?
10.Servicing?
11.Residuals?
12.And lastly, how's the clutch/gear change feel?

Sorry but as the unfortunate victim of Inspector Callaghan's first Mangum-derived retribution croaks at the start of one of Uncle Clint's finest franchises, "I gats to know!"

And btw, any chap who places a great deal of importance on the number of dials in his cockpit for no other reason than he's a pilot and he likes it should be Knighted. Bloody superb!

Where are you based as most questions can be answered with a ride in one. I live on the berks/bucks oxon border and have a 525bhp GTR

1.10-20K
2.Can-am is convertible, GTR is hard top.
3.Ride quality is excellent in mine, (18in wheels make it firmer though) not quite a lexus though.
4.with 500+bhp should be good for 3.3sec to 60 and 8-9 sec to 100 one has been timed at 0-180 in 15.8sec!
5.steady as a rock
6.Extremelly planted although needs commitment.
7.no problem with can-am!
8.And of course, just HOW visceral, ito sound, are they? ?????
9.100% for mine so far nad if looked after should stay that way.
10.Usualy chevy motor so not that specialised or expensive?
11.Let you know when mine is sold.
12.Clutch and gearbox is a Porsche item so same as 911 turbo!

Of course this is only based on my car which is a convertible with 526Bhp and as Bluesatin says you need to go see one and have a ride.

Fortunately most of us have built them ourselves and don't need much of an excuse to go for a blast or have a chat about them so it won't be difficult to find an appropriate nutter.. sorry owner!

Go to Goodwood on Monday I know a couple of us will be there!

When it comes to servicing costs and reliability, it all depends how well you put it together in the first place. If you built the car yourself, you should be capable of servicing it yourself.

The best question I had was at Le Mans this year. A guy asked me what the build quality was like on Ultimas. Answer: "Well. It all depends how well you put it together really."
