Simon, I was thinking about different colours yesterday and if the GTW might look better in anything but BLACK, it won't, that is something I am positive about (IMHO personally that is of course) and then I started thinking about the CanAm; I have NEVER seen a black one!, have you? This might sound like a cop out but I think red does suit a drop top car better than , dare I say it, b l a c k, only a little bit you understand. I had a bright red Triumph Stag some years ago and a pal of mine recently bought a black one and although it pains me to say it, the red was more appealing. Back to the GTW again and I must say my first choice was red, then blue and I did hover around the silver option but did not want to paint the car straight off although due to the body mods carried out, that idea has since gone out the window anyhow. I have had lots of parts either anodized or painted black and at one stage did get a little paranoid about there being to much black (imagine that, TO MUCH?) and so a couple of colours were chosen to mix it up a bit. As you know, a lot of the fittings available for hoses and water pipes etc. are blue and red and seeing as the single knock on wheel nuts are blue on the nearside and red on the offside because they have right and left hand threads (so as not to get them confused track side?) a theme emerged. I could not decide weather to have the pylons for the rear wing black or silver and had them done red and blue respectively in the end and am well pleased with the result. Same with the interior, bit to dark and claustrophobic in there so I had it re trimmed with black and grey and it really works. I didn't want ICE in the car at first but as time went by thought it may be a good idea to have Sat Nav for trips to the Ring etc. and maybe a DVD player for if say, I am in a long cue for the ferry or sum such. I have ended up with the same system as Stig and Clive has managed to install it in the centre of the dash which I am very happy about as I have also got a rear view camera and wanted the screen to be as close to the AIM digital dash as possible and so make it easier to see at a glance as opposed to looking from left to right along the dash and thus less attention paid to the road.

Wayne, colours i remember when we had to choose.....it took all of 2 seconds ..red , but to be honest i have never seen a black can-am don,t even know if there is one , i have only ever seen 3 can-ams and they have been yellow ,would be great to see a black one but there seems to be a general lack of can-ams must be the british weather !!! i have built 3 cars in total and they have all been red although i have never owned a red road car !!! sounds like the GTW is going to look the muts nuts are you planning to put up some pictures ?.ice sounds cool although not sure how well you will hear it over a throbbing V8 !!!! sounds like you have given everything alot of thought color matching is a art form you either get it or not ,have spent alot of time on my engine bay will try and find a picture , to be honest if i ever built another can-am i think it would be silver . the rules are differant with a gtr compared to a can-am don,t have any visability issues but i know why you want a reverse facing camera in a gtr when i sit in one i do feel very hemmed in,the interior on the can-am has to suffer a bit more i think mine has been wet then baked by the sun then wet again all in the same day so i'm not sure how ice would cope with that ,are you planning to go to donnington ? simon

A black Can-AM yikes what a waste! Black is the only colour to show off the gorgeous contours of the GTR rear clip and is the only colour NOT to say 'oh look at me I've got a multi-coloured sports car!' But secretly its saying 'go on have a look at my lines'.

The red and yellow in my opinion, just don't do that. Orange has the great Macca connection, but could be mistaken fo an Exige, and other builder spec colours are nice, but detract from the Factory std spec, in my opinion, diluting the brand.

Black is so God damn sexy!!!

Oh....how very contraversial.

Simon, did you notice that I said 'rear view camera'? I am not fussed about the reversing aspect but feel it a positive asset to see what is going on behind whilst on the road. A mate of mine was clouted from the rear caused by a combination of the Ultimas immense braking ability along with lads in the car behind trying to get closer for a look and when the Ultima applied the brakes, the said following eurobox being unable to pull up as quickly , ran straight into the back of the car resulting in a new clip being required! Once finished, there will be photos a plenty but I would love to see anything you may have to show in the Ultima department (please, NO red undies snaps!) Clive and myself will be going to Donnington on Sunday, may see you there, I look forward to meeting you, I missed you at the FOD, how did that happen?

GTB?.........nah, don't sound right does it, to much like a Feza. Scuff, look at it like this: Having a white GTR is definitely individual, possibly almost unique but definitely not as on the money as having it BLACK(you will have to make do with a GTR as there is only ONE GTW, and it is all MINE!).readit

P.S. One thing I have never seen before is a white CanAm (or a black one come to that!), do you know of one?

Do ya know I was thinking that!

It's made me chuckle though

There was a black Ultima for sale on the PH classifieds until recently that got my wallet fingers twitching, not that blacks the best colour or anything................

The dark colours are definitely show off the lines of the car the best. The bright colours are way too in your face, not in keeping with the car at all IMHO. In the end I went with the national colours: Ecurie Ecosse Blue!!

That said I did seek female advice on the matter. Black was the unequivocal reply. Sadly I haven't spoken to the friend that gave this advice in years. Draw your own conclusions...

Hey,
Real nice gallery.

It has taken me a long time to decide on the colour of the CanAm project. I still haven't decided on engine - I think I have decided, but then I go on a forum and then there is either a new alternative engine or some new reported cooling issues with the AS (now I go that off my chest as well).

I have been over the entire colour scheme - several times. Actually, maybe it is not so important, the details and finish will at the end of the day make the difference. Nevertheless, found a picture of Cadillac LMP - and made the colour decision really easy:
www.in.gr/auto/news/images/big/CadillacNorthstarLMP02_02_cadillac.jpg

Base colour is white, with layers of copper from House of Kolors' candy series. The candy colours really gives depth and and sparkle, without the flaked effect of a traditional metalic. The copper can not be green and or golden, that would give it too much retro-effect, but believe the white base colour will make it more "neutral". The red, ocher, black and white, colours around the cockpit of the Cadillac should make some really nice contrasts, especially the ocher looks really nice next to the red.

Being an open CanAm, also gotta work seriously on the interior. There is a lot funky colours one could add to the copper (red and copper) but again - too retro, so black with tints of red markings looks seems to be the final scheme.

Anyway, the colour is important, but I also think that even the best paint job will be ruined if the details and general finish is not ok.

Although on the one hand it is great to have an individual and trick paint scheme it is worth keeping in mind the stone chip problems that these cars tend to suffer due to being so low to the ground and the haunches sticking out as they do with the car being wider at the rear. Personally, I chose a black car so as to have a dark base as I had planned to have it painted at a later date but as the project has evolved you can see that the BLACK really does suit the shape of the car.

I see that WHITE (without the S) is back in there again, as a base for a great car. You just do not realise what a great colour this is. Incorporates all the other colours of the spectrunm (except Black). Is a Fine, Fine colour.
