FORD stalks pin out
Discussion
ok folks, did some research during this snowy saturday and have documented the FORD stalks with number 95AG11K665.
here some pics of the stalks
First of all I have to say this stalk has a lot to offer and will clean up the Ultima dash board from many switches.
Unfortunately you will have to open the unit and remove one black cable and cut it that is soldered between 54 and 53c.
It goes into the wiper lever and opens the connection to 53c when you press the tip button.
I would also recommed to desolder the horn cables if you do not intend to use them.
The drawings have 2 faults or are not really for the stalk that I have here, so be careful when starting to work on this.
Here my setup
WIPER
I have changed the way the wiper is working. top position of 4 is now OFF. One down is for the delayed wiping
that I intend to use with a VW NR.99 programmable relay. Next down is speed 1 last one down is for speed 2
WASHER - Pull wiper lever
I use the rear washer for the washer as the original washer button is for good use as a horn button if my
steering wheel does not have one, or I am going to use a quick release and do not want to fiddle with the cables.
INDICATOR
I intend to use the original Ford indication with the relay that came with my used unit - if missing the ford
part is 93AG13350. It save a lot of wiring as you can connect your indicators directly to the L and R outputs.
The stalk has integrated hazard switch, again one switch less on the dash.
LIGHTS - Turn rotating buttons on Indicator lever
This was a tricky one. First of all there is no real matching description in the escort files and in addition they
made this one a little more difficult to understand. The LIGHTS are working that you have the sidelights independent of
the lo and hi beam. The Lo beam is actually the feed for the intermittent hi beam (works also with lo beam lights off)
whereas the constant hi beam is only working when the lo beam is turned on.
This however makes little sense and I still have not understood why this is wired this way ?
see schematic here for full integration in the Ultima loom, notice you will need one additional standard relay !

SPARE- PUSH WIPER LEVER back
There is one spare the rear wiper that may be used for the fog light, but in my case it would mean that if use the washer
the fog light will be off for that time.
HORN - Push tip button on wiper lever
This is my horn setup, in case I have no other choice
Here you can download the pdf with the relating numbers to the above description

ATTENTION !!!
I turns out that the washer function is not working as planned. The reason for this is
how the stalk is internally connected. So in Wiper OFF mode once you have the washer motor hooked up
you will feed 12V through the washer motor to the I (intervall input of the VW 099 relay) contact, starting
the wiper even if the lever is in off mode. I have been thinking about many ways to get that working but
I ended up in just adding one more small tactile button to my system that directly feeds 12V to the washer
motor and the T input of the 099 relay. This setup will pump as much water on the screen you want and run the wiper
3 times automatically.
sorry for this but I was unable to detect this before I actually had all wired together.

I'm ready to convert my radio switches for turn signals and horn to this arrangement.
In my hands the radio setup has been unreliable.
What car should I source the stalks and switches from?
May I cut a hole in the dash and "sink" the box for the stalks into it? I don't have much room between the steering wheel and the dash.
Thanks,
ken

need some help, it is a language problem, what are actually the SIDE LIGHTS, DRIVE LIGHTS, Lo BEAM and HI BEAM.
I thought lo beam is the driving light, why have another driving light , especially since they are wired in parallel
in the loom ?
thanks
Side lights are the small lights at the front that come on with the rear lights.I thought lo beam is the driving light, why have another driving light , especially since they are wired in parallel

Low beam are the headlights that point down towards the road so that you do not blind oncoming drivers.
Driving lights and high beam are the lights that light up the road way off in the distance. You can point the driving lights differently so as to cover more of the road.

Ken.... the MK4 Escort (stubby ones) I used work well.In my hands the radio setup has been unreliable.

I removed the Hazard from the top and brought them in close to the wheel... as an indication I have a 280mm wheel and they do not protrude past the wheel.
I cut and lenghtened the steering column a little to get clearance. (in pics below the steering shaft is not connected - it goes in about 1" from where it is in the pics)
Being a short arse 175cm, I found that the ergonomics were not suited to me...
So I put 1" spacers under the front of the seat so that the seat is angled a bit - thereby allowing me to get top rear of the seat all the way back (so my arms are not too bent) and at the same time keeping my bum forward enough that I my legs are a little bent.
I also found the standard pedals little far away - a bit small - too close together - and not facing the driver.
So - I remade the clutch/brake pedals with slightly longer bolts + slighly larger plates (with the plate on the clutch pedal offset to the left and the one on the brake pedal offset to the right) + I angled the plates on the pedals towards the driver (rather than perprendicular to the firewall)
The accelerator pedal was also remade to line up with the new ones, and the new accelerator has a plate that goes from the pivot at the floor up to the top of the pedal (rather than a rod with the plate just at the top) - so my heel contacts with the plate - rather than the rod on the standard one.
..... excuse the filth in the pictures

STIG - can you make this sticky, has cost me a few hours and hopefully will save someone else all the work.
Done - however, I would say that from first hand experience, not all the Ford Escort stalks seem to be wired the same way. I had 3 sets and they were all different (whilst looking identical). Thanks for taking the time to post though. Stalks seem to be a popular option these days (as do Bright 6 lighting modules and Audi TT vents! )

i am working on it, once i am finished there will be a detailed description of how to do it, it will be then a simple matter of connecting. today i have explored the mysteries of the Vw 99 programmable wiper intervall relay and i can already confirm that it will work in an ultima setup
stay tuned only a couple of weeks, I will put the loom now soon and then test all the electrics and can then finalize the
drawing for the loom integration. Got some connectors and covers from the scrap yard, the connectors are slim and much better
than soldering especially if you have to replace a faulty stalk.

Great job Spatz
I can't understand why the factory doesn't offer a solution like this. It makes the car feel so much more like a production car instead of a kitcar. I actually think this is a major reason for many people not to buy an Ultima.
I love the buttons on the steering wheel that I have on my car but stalks would be great and then I can move other functions to my buttons instead of indicators etc. How wide are the stalks that you use? I don't want them to stick out behind the wheel.
