this is more expensive but we all run centrfugal superchargers on our late model american cars ,injectors ect cost money so does the mapping of the engine but they idle like stockers and drive like stockers but hit the go pedal and hell brakes loose like a 150 hp shot of nitrous .you could almost use a cut out from a ls1 vette , camaro or firebird complete with pcm loom ect and 8 psi of s trim vortech that will make an easy 470 to the wheels.

some more usefull links are www.crower.com and the performance forum at www.chevytalk.com. The guys on the message board over there really know their stuff. Plus, grumpyvette will even dyno your motor for free if you ask nicely.
Cheers!

I mean PC dyno your motor with a couple of different programs (including DD2000)

I have two engines for my Ultima, one from american speed rated at 526Bhp on their Dyno and one being build by Peter Knight at 430ish UK Bhp. The american one is in my car, peters one is a spare!

The american speed engine comes with everything, sump, alternator & bracket, set up and run in. To compare prices you must add these in which will cost about 1k over here (sump is 350quid). Both cost within a K of each other but the american speed one is higher spec so will be the more powerfull item.

There are advantaged to both and I can recomend both, but the American delivered on time to a tight deadline and the engine has not missed a beat.

Having lived in the US for the past 27 years and keeping up with European, Japanese, and American cars, I can tell you that while the US has used net power figures for stock production cars since 1972, far later than DIN was first used in Europe, when it comes to most builders of old style, pushrod V8's, they still seem to rate them in gross hp figures. If you look at Hot Rod, Car Craft, etc. you'll see that that's generally also the case when talking about engine building, performance tuning, etc.

That is not the case when dealing with tuners of modern American cars, such as Lingenfelter, Rippie, Agostino Racing, etc. at least theoretically, as I have never found out for sure, but they seem to imply that when modifying modern cars, their power figures are in net hp. I just happen to be skeptical by nature and experience.

The problem is also that, just to confuse matters, some guys like Lingenfelter also sell powerful versions of the old style engines and rate them with gross hp figures. Also, once in a while, magazines like Hot Rod will build an engine and then dyno it with full exhaust (including mufflers), either with or without accessories, as opposed to their usual way of dynoing them with just headers and no accessories.
