Scan of Ultima chassis & bodywork
Discussion
Hi all,
I am new to this forum and I hope you don't mind me posting here.
I am considering an Ultima project build with a friend of mine but I was hoping I can add my little tweaks to the exterior so it can be more personal. However, being an engineer he wanted to make sure we're not doing anything stupid hence he recommended we get a bare chassis and an exterior to scan before hand.
Does anyone have or know where I can find a bare chassis and exterior bodywork I can use for this job. I am happy to pay for the inconvenience to come over and scan the chassis and the bodywork if that's not a big trouble.
Any help will be highly appreciated!
Many thanks!

Any builder prepared to allow you to do this would risk the wrath of the Ultima Factory.
I suspect they would withhold support for that builder in the future, for anyone who enabled a clear attempt to plagiarize their work and intellectual property.
If you want an Ultima, just order one.
If you want to build a modified Ultima, just order a chassis etc.
If you want to build something else, start from scratch.

I've been thinking about these posts and I'm not sure of the logic. I would have thought there were enough photos around of the cars and their chassis to see whether a particular project is viable or not. However if you are only making a special version for your own use - not selling it as a new vehicle - I can't see how the factory's intellectual property rights are infringed. Whilst the standard car is a fully proven product looking at Jon Olsson's modified versions they are stunning - if even more impractical for the road. Have a scroll down here:

It's not a case of property rights infringement it is all about the time and effort the factory have put into developing their product and are very happy with the way it looks.I'm sure they were horrified when the Olsson version appeared and would be equally so if another bastardised version of their pride and joy was produced even as a one off.

As much as I love my Ultima and at risk of being flamed, I'm happy to see someone take the design and actually put some 21st century evolution into it!
That said I don't think you can expect to obtain blueprints, purchase a chassis and work it out from there as others have done.
Whilst I think the design should stay as it is I can understand that others will want to put a different spin on it.That said I don't think you can expect to obtain blueprints, purchase a chassis and work it out from there as others have done.
If they want something different then go and design/build your own car (as others have done).
What the factory do not want is for someone to take a chassis and start modifying it (and the suspension and the bodywork) but still register it as an Ultima because that is what they have receipts for. If/when things go wrong that name is what will appear in the newspaper headlines.
Steve
Similarly if someone modifies the chassis and goes racing and is more successful than they would be, they don't want their name on it. Because GT3/GTE supercars are so close to the road going versions lol

Steve I have to say, you sound archaic sometimes.
Apart from chassis stiffness, the car hasn't improved performance wise in 17 years from a mechanical perspective, the only improvements are in tyre and engine performance, I'm
very much one for improving.
Back to the point of the post tho, I think this is a blatant attempt at copying, there is nothing that can be modified that would require that up front imo.

You must be including my car as I have made modifications to both chassis and body. So is my car still an Ultima in your eyes?
