Potential New Buyer

Hi, I have been lurking on the site for may months now and have finally decided the next step for me is an Ultima.
Although I like the gtr I think the can am will suit me best, I currently have a vx220 and over the years had bike engine cars.
Always wanted an Ultima and the time has come.
That was a quick hello.
Do any of you long term owners have any information on this particular one, its currently wrapped but it is red under all the wrapping. Its been around since 2002 and had 7 owners so some of you may have come across it.

Hope to get some feedback and sorry for the punctuation, i'm not one for typing etc.

Andy Gladwin built the car to an excellent standard sold it to a guy down south whom I bought it from, a top guy, I owned it for a while and loved every minute with her. When I owned it she had a 4 speed turbo box, engine and box were an excellent combo and the car was faultless during my ownership which was a credit to the builder, I use my cars on every opportunity so they are not garage queens unfortunatly the gell coat did have a few black swirles due to the early impregnation and sunlight maybe that's why it's wrapped sorry can't comment on her life afterwards. I am now on my 6th and final Ultima having found my dream car a beautiful Sports with the detachable rear pilon the red Can-Am was my first Ultima they are addictive due to the looks, performance, ability to work and maintain yourself and respect they seem to have on the road all the fraction of the cost of the big boys.
Hope this helps

I can vouch for Andy too, Top bloke.
I see the car has the reverie intake scoops on the side which retail at 1000 (which is why you dont see many of those). I went for an SBC CanAm some time ago too and I've got a blog on my experience, however I also budgeted for some upgrade to get the 'rebuilders' experience. I'm not saying that this car needs that but worth budgeting for somethings you might want to do to make the car yours.
I took the engine out and redid the gearbox and redid it all just because I wanted too and I did redo a fair few things to make the car mine too.
After a quick look at the ad, I would ask about the seats as they appear to have ultima ones in some pics and seats without headrests in some. (irrelevant if its a track day car with use with a helmet). Id also question if the 4 speed will be an issue or not. You might find the advert is right that that box is rare and valuable, but some are the 5 speeds, so I'd consider a box swap.
Looks like the car has different end plates on the wing and the small aero foil removed, so see if the owner still has that if you want to use it for track days etc.
I have the hard top and I think thats a great addition, this car already has the high sided screens too so saves you some ££ if you want to do that.
I can see already this car has some bits mine didnt, like the accusump stack dash and a stereo too. You'll see some debate between the LS and SBC engines but I find the SBC characterful and sounds great. I guess all I'm saying is I bought a car in a similar spec and havent regretted it but I have thrown a fair amount of money at it too.....
What do you want to use it for? Road car?

Thanks fellas for the information.
Russ, your 6th, wow you have got the bug for these cars. I have owned 4 kit cars and loved every second form building to driving and track days. Kids put a stop to that so ended up with the VX for the last 3 years. Just put petrol in it and drive now. ( WIFE said so ) no garage time !!.
Car will be for now the odd drive out, the wife has just got back into university to study optometry and is staying away from home Monday to Friday. With 2 teenagers and one child ( she loves going out in the VX ) its going to be hard work for the next 12 months !!!!!!!!!.
I will ask the owner if he has the rear wing part that's missing, probably why the end plates have been changed. Will this be ok for road use and no track days, I don't think I will have time over the next year or so.
Hard top, are these an item to buy form Ultima ?.
I haven't really thought about that. Weather isn't a problem as im an ex biker too and still have my coveralls and they make you toastie warm.
If all goes well I may be joining the club, I have a viewing, eeeeekkk

Those pics are from the Totalheadturners website, might look a bit different now...
When Andy built it, he used the rear wing from a Noble which did not have the gurney element and I believe he also used Noble seats, although these might have changed down the years. The engine was built from the best bits from Knight Racing and American Speed and the box, as said, from a four speed turbo, (strong box and ideally suited to a big torque V8) he also had smaller/lighter wheels (can be seen on the Reverie website) which suited the gearing/car etc...he also developed the carbon side scoops/rocker covers with Reverie to aid the cooling in the engine bay, successfully.
Said he always regretted selling it, but has moved on to other successful projects since.
How do I know all this, he's a good mate.

Hi Jo the car was only used on the road during my ownership and the guy I bought it from, she drove perfect apart from tram lining but all Ultimas do that unless you have smaller wheels fitted and it can make a difference to which tyres you have fitted, rear wing as Graham mentioned a none Ultima Item seats, it had a high back set fitted when I owned her which were either Noble or Ultima very similar and comfortable so im not sure why it has the low back ones fitted now. 4 Speed Porsche turbo box is probably the strongest box you will find and Andy went to a lot of trouble to match it with the engine which was also a good strong engine she ran perfectly for me without any problems at all cant say since though.
Hi Roj
Yes I'm the new proud owner of a wonderful Sports and couldn't have bought from a more genuine enthusiastic Ultima builder / owner a lovely guy with tons of engineering knowledge. I think it was the quickest sold Ultima in history from for sale to sold, found my dream Ultima at last after 10 years of looking apart from the one that was stolen from under my nose I know he is missing the car every time he sends a text it's signed off GRUMPY lol it's gone to a good home and will be retired from the track and cherished if you are ever over this way Roj call in regards Russ

I have an orange CanAm with a recent autobionics LS3 upgrade that I'm probably going to sell in the spring as they're are a few jobs that I wanted to do on it before I put it up for sale.
If you're after a car that needs a couple of days fettlerling (both front and rear clips need adjusting), needs a bloody thorough cleaning etc.. then it might be worth us having a chat? I'm building a new house (and garage) and it's effectively taken over my life 😡 Coupled with the fact that I've just inherited an old classic - there aren't enough hours in the day.

Well I did it, got a mate to drive me to view the car.
Good look round and even spoke to Andy who built the car and a good car he built there.
Did the deal and drove her home the 200 miles back, fun when you can only just touch the pedals !, 3" chunk of foam behind my back too.
Time to put my mark on it and I will be on asking loads of questions
Cheers Joe

Well done sir, welcome to the club!
Meant to reply that yes the hardtop is available from the factory.
Where abouts in the country are you based there might be a few owners in the areas that can help/go out for runs with.
My blog if you are interested and what I ended doing to mine.
