Preparing for the drive up to the factory at the weekend, I thought it best to dig out my AA membership card. Alas, I couldn't find it, but was sure I was covered 'cos they clobber me with direct debit every year.

So, gave them a ring today to check that they had the right details. Despite insuring me for house & contents too, my breakdown cover details referred to my old address with the consequence that for the last 2 years (has it been that long!) my membership card has been sent there.

Anyway, to cut a long story shorter, during my phone conversation with them to update my details, the nice man at the AA asked how old the car was and being told it was new he asked if it was warrantied. I explained that being a 'specialist' car, it was not (with the possible exception of the engine). He then gave me details of their vehicle warranty which, for 48 quid, insures you for 3 claims a year of up to 500 quid each. So basically, if your gearbox lets go they'll pay the 1st 500 notes for the repair/replacement.

Given the high performance nature of the car and the increased risk of failure of the major components (engine, trans, suspension, electrics etc. are all covered), 48 quid didn't seem too bad, so I went for it.

Maybe worth giving them a call if you fancy the same damage limitation. That said, 500 quid wouldn't scratch the surface for a full engine rebuild, but for the cost of a fillup with Optimax, every little helps eh!

I can tow you with the Trooper Bri, but fear the Ultima would just rip the front of your motor off

Blue,

Yup, despite telling them that I had built the car using only 2 and a half tubes of sikaflex and some gaffer tape, they were perfectly happy to warranty it.

There's no stipulation of 'approved' garages, just send a receipt in and they'll cough.
