I have a crap stereo, a Kenwood UD-952 mini system which I bought on credit with my first job. I earned £9K pa the stereo cost £1500.

In my defense I do have a lot of music though.

I really should buy a decent stereo at some point...

I have a cupboard FULL of stuff 4xamps, computer contolled crossover switching. DTS surround amp. CD recorder, CD player etc.
Thanks for the reminder I must put it all back in use again. EVERY time I set it up the wife decides to move the room round so it all gets moved. Then we have the argument about speakers...why are they so big...why do you need so many...why do they have to be there...

Mine's OK (boast mode):

Project 6.1 Turntable + PhonoBox SE phono stage
Cyrus CD8 + PSX/R power supply
Cyrus Pre-X (pre-amplifier)
4x Cyrus SmartPower (speakers are mono-biamped i.e. each has two mono amplifiers, one powering HF and the other LF)) upgraded to 2x MonoX
Audiovector Mi3Super speakers
All cables are Chord Company

Home cinema system is getting on a bit:

Sony 32" CRT TV upgraded to Philips 37PF9830 37" LCD
Panasonic DMR-HS2 DVD/HDD recorder
Denon 2802 Receiver
KEF KHT 2005 (the egg speakers)
upgrade to Audiovector MiSub Signature

Plan is to get a plasma or LCD done, buy a Cyrus AV processor waiting for new model this spring, a couple of Cyrus Mono-X power amplifiers done, a Cyrus DVD player waiting for new model this spring and Audiovector centre [bon order, rears on order and subwoofer done to merge with the Cyrus/Audiovector hifi.

Then I'll upgrade all the Audiovector speakers (you send them back and give them a large amount of cash and they upgrade them to a higher model) later this year

It's an expensive business!

Roksan Xerxes with AT-F3 (yes I know its ancient but the tip is still good)
Arcam Delta 70.3 CD player
Naim NAC 42.5N preamp
2x Velleman Valve monoblocs
Musical Fidelity monitors

Sounds pretty sweet although its quiet right now as I need cases for the monoblocs. Got the bits, just need someone to cut the metal top for the valves.

Ok here's just a small selection of my collection of DVDs , DVD Audio, and LPs.

.

To be honest I tolerate Robbie William's music, but Take That is ghastly to say the least.

Mine's prehistoric:

Rega Planar 3/ Nagaoka MP11 Boron
Armstrong 625 Tuner/Amp
Marantz CD273
TEAC cassette deck
B&W DM4 speakers
2.5mm Twin & Earth speaker leads

Also have a Quad 405-based power-amp that gathers dust in the loft...

And a home-brewed phono preamp designed by Jez (ex-Musical Fidelity)and built by me; was going to be the basis for my own company in 1987 but, like so many ideas, never materialised.

Rotel t/t (plays 78's, of which I have many)
Sony STSE-370rds tuner
Kenwood KA-3020se amp
Aiwa ADWX-888 Cassette Deck
Marantz CD48 CD Player
Wharfedale Diamond 4 Speakers on Sand Filled, spiked targets
Sanyo 32" CRT TV
Panansonic Video
Sony Laserdisc
Sanyo DVD

Cambridge Audio Interconnects
QED Speaker Cable

All mounted on a spiked target rack

The process of updating never ends though, so these details (hopefully) won't be current for long.

I've been into serious hifi for over ten years now, upgrading through all the typical high street gear like cyrus, then onto more esoteric stuff like high end BAT valves.

Then I discovered professional monitoring equipment as an alternative route to follow. It's the same equipment as used in recording and mastering suites - where the original music is actually made and signed off by the artist themselves. The audio performance is on another level, as is the build quality and backup (20 year warranties etc). Another benefit is the kit is no nonsense and as such the price is more competative as your not paying for glossy magazine adverts, high street markups, sales guys commission, paying for cedia and bada accreditation etc. The end result is for half the price of a top flight £50k naim rig you can outperform it 200%. It's a little like comparing a £100k 996 turbo to a £400k ferrari F50. The 996 turbo will do everything better in any situation and last much longer, except it won't look as flash. To some this is more important.

Anyway here's the best rig I've ever heard, and my last hifi for a long time...

Teac VRDS25 (cd transport)
Benchmark DAC1 (digital to analogue convertor)
Bryston BP25 (pre amp)
Bryston 7B SST PRO (two monoblock power amps)
PMC IB2 (studio monitors)
Mogami fully balanced XLR cables throughout.
