Why do they filter in the transport rather than the DAC? That would seem to make more sense to me.
99% of them do filter on the DAC, but then 99% of systems use analogue speakers. Meridian however have digital speakers, so they add it in the digital domain, they think that you should do the processing as early as possible in the chain.

... I remember back in the late 70's, Ry Cooder's Bop Till You Drop** album was digitally mastered, and it was head and shoulders after many other albums in terms of sound quality.
Not just digitally mastered, but fully digitally recorded using the 3M 32 track system.Hot on it's digital heels came "The Nightfly", Donald Fagen's masterpiece.

Something I've always found peculiar - I'm struggling to think of a more hostile location for a DAC than the enclosure of a speaker!
Perhaps Meridian get it to 'work' despite DAC location rather than 'because' of its location...
This explains why Meridian went DSP....Perhaps Meridian get it to 'work' despite DAC location rather than 'because' of its location...

This is a very good article from Ayre explaining how these new filters can 'undo' the unwanted 'ringing' of older filters used in the recording process.
We now know that a brickwall cut off at 22.5khz with a linear filter can only be achieved by adding pre ringing, which gives us time smearing, not good. These new filters stop this from happening and clean up older recordings.

This is what also got Bob Stuart looking into MQA, well worth reading the info on that.
Or if you can be arsed, this guy explains it pretty well, albeit in a bit too much detail...

As for MQA - well I have been following this blog with a lot of interest.
Personally, I'm not sold on the concept of MQA, and I kind of hope it's going to end up going the same way as HDCD.
In my personal opinion, we don't need MQA / SACD / HD Audio / DVD Audio / HDCD etc.
What we do need is high quality, consistent mastering and abolition of the loudness wars.
But then of course, a large part of the industry would probably collapse overnight.
Well if you want some proper bullst...
Apparently, a NAS with striped RAID sounds better than mirrored. Oh yes...

Those £60 fuses are so passe.
Try these ones - http://www.analogueseduction.net/category-699/syne...
Now available for purchase at a reasonable sum of £79.99 per fuse.

I think MQA as a streaming tech could be good. As for MQA - well I have been following this blog with a lot of interest.

But totally agree that if we get the basics right, then cd quality can be amazing.

tts. There is even a review from a customer who hasn't noticed any difference but thinks that is due to it not being run in yet. Run in! A fuse! These people are allowed out in public and can vote and everything. Some of them (hopefully not many) even breed. Try these ones - http://www.analogueseduction.net/category-699/syne...

You know you've entered a parallel dimension when they're debating RAID levels and the impact the brand of NAS makes and they're doing all of this on an 8 port £30 Netgear switch.Apparently, a NAS with striped RAID sounds better than mirrored. Oh yes...
To be fair I've done my share of tinkering in a former life and I still have £8-10k of Naim kit in the spare room because I got a little sick of continuously tweaking things, but once you're into different RAID levels the lunatics have taken over the asylum.
As a variation on the theme... posting YouTube clips to demonstrate how good kit is... this one sounds great although maybe a little too much toe in?
