Sky deals anyone?
Discussion
Ditched sky quite a few years ago, their costs combined with costs of streaming services were getting silly. Now use the tiny virgin freeview/smart box (£40 one off payment) connected via Wi-Fi, gives me live TV and easy access to paid apps (Netflix, prime etc) plus the usual free ones. Everything I need plus no ugly rusting sky dishes or miles of cable. Perfect.

Gaining year on year even with churn and general attrition . Q3 results are healthy and product development steady.
I'm genuinely a bit surprised at that Each to their own but other than the sport monopoly I'm struggling with what they do that encourages people to sign lengthy contracts etc.

Sky till i die!
(Just kidding, it just rhymes well. Saying that though... )
Let's just set aside the bin Sky off discussion for a moment.
Can anyone explain to me the pricing logic of this.
The other day setting something to record on the box using the phone app it ended up not on BBC1HD which was selected but on BBC Scotland SD, no idea why.
It recorded it, but overlaid on the recording was a message something to the effect that SD broadcast ending on date whatever and only HD in future.
So we now go to Sky pricing. We currently have HD add on £9.
Black Friday deals.
HD 4 months free then £9 pcm after that
UHD 4 months free then £4 pcm after that ( needs UHD box (?) and UHD TV. Presumably would display on an HD TV just not in UHD, no issue there. )
Can anyone explain to me the pricing logic of this.

Our renewal will be up in the new year - going up from £95 to £154. Sod that.
Left and returned previously - been back 3yrs, but will leave again unless my bill stays the same.
Will probably switch to NowTV (I've read that you can now stream to 3 devices at once) and inc Entertainment & SkySports.
Not bothered about recording.
Then will probably return again when a decent deal is available.
This entire process is so pathetic.

As a Free to Air channel you don't need to pay anything extra to receive BBC in HD. The same goes for ITV/STV and Channel 4. It's been a very long time so I'm not sure if CHannel 5 HD is still part of the Sky HD pack or not though. Can anyone explain to me the pricing logic of this.

I recall many years ago when I cancelled my basic Sky package after the discount period expired and then I bought a FreeSat box. I started enjoying free to air channels in HD which Sky would not provide for free. It's a joke how they are charging for free services.Found this which provides an explanation of the situation.
In short if you've got the old kit which is still SD you need to upgrade. If going to SkyQ you will get the free to air HD channels like BBC without the extra subscription. The HD subscription covers channels such as Sky Atlantic in HD.
