so if not getting a samsung to replace it - what should I get instead? Who are leading in TVs at the mo?!
I have this and it is very, very good. But the Samsung and LG mentioned in the review are close and have larger discounts. https://www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/sony-br...
Well if it were my choice I'd be going for an LG C3 65" & if I could somehow magic up the extra it would be the G3 65" plus a stand.
Personally I would buy from John Lewis & pay monthly £3 or £4 (or £180 for 5 years) for Protect Plus to cover Burn In & accidental damage.
Sure it might cost me a few hundred more than getting best price elsewhere, but it would be partially used with a PC so would give peace of mind for 5 whole years

Samsung quality seems to be going down hill. We bought a large expensive TV which and from the off the blacks looked patchy. Within a couple of years those patches were permenant dark patches. My brother had different model but likewise expensive TV and the back-light LEDs became very prominent (like a diffuser had gone) after a couple of years. I've also had two blueray players give up with very little use.
It's a shame because I've long been a fan of Samsung products.
I finally caved in and bought a new TV as I realised that decent OLED sets were now in my price range. Arrives at the weekend, looking forward to seeing OLED on a big screen, I love it on my phone and tablet. It's a shame because I've long been a fan of Samsung products.
However, I'm currently using a Samsung UE40ES6800 which I got back in 2013 and is still going strong. I originally was going to keep it until it started giving problems - but it hasn't given any in the ten years that I've been running it for hours every day. Absolutely great set - I'll be boxing it up and keeping it as a spare. Sad, but not exactly surprising, to hear that the quality is going downhill on their modern sets.

You get 6 years warranty with Richer Sounds as standard. Personally I would buy from John Lewis & pay monthly £3 or £4 (or £180 for 5 years) for Protect Plus to cover Burn In & accidental damage.

I've always wanted an OLED screen since I first read about the tech but they used to be phenomenally expensive so I kind of forgot about them.
Great reviews and also apparently very good for gaming/PC use. Should let me make full use of my 2019 Shield Pro and finally make the most of my PS4 Pro. Maybe even tempt me into upgrading to a PS5 despite my deep reservations about lack of backward compatibility to PS1/2/3. I could justify it for the UHD BD player and for better use of my PS4 library I suppose. We'll see.
Screen size is perfect for me - the TV sits in a corner so any larger and I'd have to put it on the wall over the fire or directly in front of the window neither of which are my preferred placements. It was also one of the few decent OLED sets available in such a 'small' size.... Apparently ~50" is the considered the base size now, which is mental unless you have a big room , IMO.

pursued it with currys and they set me up with a team in samsung, and fortunately was able to get samsung to approve currys giving me a full refund.
Now I just need to navigate the issue of it being a 65" telly with no box!
Possibly sell for spares? Now I just need to navigate the issue of it being a 65" telly with no box!
appears common failure with samsung reluctant to replace.

the only niggling doubt is that it is 4k and not 8k. Not that I am a gamer but i am more thinking about at least some aspect of future-proofing... although there is irony attached to that i guess if modern tellies don't even last 3 years!
OLED has a 100000hrs life approx. which equates to, what, 8-9hrs a day for a decade? I wouldn't worry about 8k.
