You are just missing the half naked girls from your gentlemans club.
Indeed but I can’t imagine the mrs and kids would be happy with Crystal and Tiffany showing up on weekends hehe
They could also do the cleaning and play with the kids. Its all about how you "sell it" to the Mrs.
How I describe it

The reality hehe

what are the grey rectangles for on the wall?
They are acoustic panels. Or, more specifically, broadband absorbers. They prevent reverb by drastically decreasing the decay time of reflected sounds. The result is a much less "live" sounding room, i.e. it sounds "dead" when you speak, or clap your hands, and in terms of listening you get a vastly improved stereo image and accuracy, as well as much clearer dialogue from the centre speaker.

There are some things you just can't fix with DSP. Room treatments should be on anyone's radar if they're setting up a dedicated cinema room.

Broadband absorbers are useful down to about 150Hz. I also use a MiniDSP to flatten the response of my sub.
I’ve always wondered about these. Recently I converted an upstairs bedroom in to a home office, but it needed to have a large wardrobe in there too as we needed the storage. Initially it was great, but once the wardrobe went in the echo during video-calls was horrible. Put in a couple of panels and it’s amazing the difference they make.

Unfortunately the wife won’t let me put some in our living/cinema room, where they’d clearly do wonders.

It's like bars. An old fashioned pub with carpets, curtains, and soft furnishings is quiet and you can hold a conversation. One with wood floors, hard furnishings and no curtains is loud and buzzy!

The plain grey ones are a bit ugly, but looking online you can get ones that are better looking.

This is mine. Small room, but it's a great little space and it looks and sounds fantastic. 80" screen (wide-angle lens makes it look like a 50"!)

Since the above photos I've moved the centre speaker onto a wall bracket

This I like very much, thanks for posting. It shows what can be done in a small room (which is no doubt what I will end up working with) and I think it looks great!

I’m In the process of rebuilding my basement home cinema/man cave. I did have optoma projector/av receiver etc but found it all too much of a pain in the backside so sold it all. New room will be 75” smart tv, sound bar, minimal wires one end and my DJ booth/bar the other with my technics/pioneer set up hidden under the counter.

Work so far reboarding and jointing, wall ready for smart tv.

More gentleman’s club/gin bar, the previous dedicated cinema room just wasn’t working for the family, they hated it which surprised me.

Still have one bare walls 4x4m room that was supposed to be a dedicated cinema room. But then missus got laid off and decided to retrain so now it's going to be a beauty therapy studio for her working from home. Can't say I'm not a little disappointed. It's going to cost me the same as a very well sorted cinema system just to buy her all the gubbins for pampering her clients.

I found this on YouTube, this is almost exactly what I have in mind, right down to the starlight ceiling! Unfortunately the most irritating people in the world presenting it, the link should take you straight to the cinema room part to minimise irritation - maybe watch it with the sound off.

https://youtu.be/RoDd0FNWqBc?t=209

And if you're wondering how two basically children can afford a house like that (I was!), it turns out she has another YouTube channel with over 4 million subscribers and over 100 one million+ view videos on it!

Bonkers. paperbag

Can't you do both with some proper design? Recessed screen, speakers etc behind some custom studowork, sound deadening material set into the walls etc.

I'm imagining a very comfortable chair in the middle of the room for beauty therapy that double as a perfectly situated viewing platform for the evenings...and I'm sure her clients would appreciate the ability to watch some TV or listen to soothing music whilst she works...

This may, of course, be highly wishful thinking but hell, never hurts to try.

My TV room has been appropriated by my toddler who, whilst she is not yet allowed any screens, still thinks that Daddy's room is by far the best place to play, probably because she is not meant to be in there, and because it is one of the few carpeted rooms in the house. The sideboard under the TV holds no AV stuff, just toys. I have had to disconnect Alexa too, as she has learned how to turn the TV on with voice control.

Families. They just get in the way of viddying some good ultraviolence in 4k, don't they.

I have to say that if it was causing agro then something was wrong or missing in your setup.

Loads of systems out there, that when set up correctly just work for years on end, without have a bank busting budget.

If anyone is having these sort of issues, reach out before you give up.

And yes, even installers get it wrong, i am just reworking a 7 year old cinema room that 'has never really worked so we just used to give up' client quote, installer one of the bigger (better?) ones from london.

There are some great looking rooms being posted, I don’t have a dedicated cinema room as the house is too small and I should really have a better system considering what I do for a living laugh. I have a Bose Acoustimass ( I forget the model big sub and 5 double cubes ) Bought for £100 and a Denon AVR X2500H with a Sony 49” Android TV. When I get a bigger house it will have a proper cinema system along with a dedicated HiFi just for music I would of bought some better speakers if the Acoustimass hadn’t of been so cheap.

That's the beauty of hifi/AV, something for different budgets etc and if your system works well and you enjoy it despite what nay sayers say, it's good.

Some great stuff and ideas in here. I’m looking at buying an amp, centre speaker and 2 smaller speakers and then a sub. Total budget of about £1400 I’m thinking. I had in mind something like a couple of B&W M1s and then a HTM6 for the centre streaker, then a ASW608 for a sub. I have to say my knowledge of this sort of stuff is really poor so any advice would be really appreciated. My only limitations are the cabinet it is going on with space for the centre speaker and then I was planning on putting the smaller speakers to either side of the tv.

Sorry it’s upside down, I’ve tried everything!

I wonder if it was the "reach out" comment that annoyed him? I felt a little bit of sick come up when I read that bit.

Wind my neck in?? Are you for real?

I know my house layout better than a stranger on the internet implying I’ve done it wrong thanks.
