getting virgin media cheaper
Discussion
The internet is as good as a solid 8 mb adsl at the best of times, so that can go. The TV is utter toss and for ever needing resests, the controller and box are of the lowest grade known to man.
Maybe I will ring them now and ask them to detail what we have and then get about some upgrades. As it seems I am paying a lot, for not much more than some of you.

All tv channels, inc all the sky sports one. But no movies.
20 Meg bb.
No idea about the phone.
And its all on the normal box. I have a feeling I am being stiffed here..
Yes you'll be able to get a better deal than that. For £90 I get the same channels as you but 50mb bb, a V+ box plus a second normal box in the spare room.20 Meg bb.

At any point you can change what you've got etc.
I moved into my girlfriends a couple of months ago - we redecorated and so new tv, so got V+, HD etc., and because I'm a computer type person we got 10mb bb too - all with a phone call, no idea how far or short we were into the contract, you can just phone up and change at any time.

Cool.
I will report back
Don't speak to the normal helpdesk people though. When you call them select the option of 'thinking of leaving' and tell them you want to see if you can get a better deal as you're coming to the end of the contract.I will report back
The best bundle at the moment is this one: "Very Impressive Package"
There was talk of a "VIP50" (same as above, but with 50Mb Broadband) but I don't know if it has actually been put on sale.

You reckon I could get that? Or is it new customers? There was talk of a "VIP50" (same as above, but with 50Mb Broadband) but I don't know if it has actually been put on sale.

Offer: Available to new customers or existing customers taking an additional cable service (subject to status and credit checks). You must take all services included in this package for at least 12 months. If you change any part of this package, standard prices apply. Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer.
I have heard of people upgrading to VIP pack when they go through the "what's the best deal you can offer for me to stay" route. Personally, I wouldn't recommend going straight for the nuclear option of selecting the "I'm thinking of leaving" button - speak to customer services first, see what they can offer (and mention the VIP package as something you are interested in). See what they can offer, and if it's not the above (or acceptable to you), try to ring off and say you will think about it. They may try to save the call, whatever, they have to record notes of the call details (notes to say "offered X or Y"). Then spend a little time researching deals from Sky, and call back and select the option to leave. When they discuss your options, mention the costs you have from Sky (be accurate, they have access to check the deals you mention, and will smell a rat if you try to tell them you can get a gazillion meg BBI and seven Sky+HD boxes and free calls for ever for £3.75 a year).
Several times in the last year I have read forum posts complaining that VM did not try to save the customer from leaving, and when the services were cancelled, they actually did end up cancelling! A reasonable attempt will be made to save you as a customer, the days of unreasonable offers are gone now.

There is no need to say that you're thinking of leaving but if you select that option on the phone and ask what discounts you can get now you're nearing the end of the contract they will be able to offer you a better deal than the usual customer service people.

So the VIP package is £98, which would give me 50 meg BB, V+ HD, and movie channels. Apparenly the said they cannot move on that cost.
What do I do? Give it a while then call them back, or...

I pay £78 quid a month. Just spoke to them, they cannot do anything to my current account apart from loose the sports package (that would save me £20) as I am getting a £20 discount as it is. Apparently.

Just on hold at the minute.
so far he has dropped £10 down to around £70 and given me v+ hd box. I have asked him to try and work a movie package into that too.
If I can get v+ HD, and movies for near what I am paying now, I will be happy (ish).

If you don't get a good deal now you should do when your 12 months are up.
Are you talking to the retentions people or normal customer service?

So I am gaining movies, v+ HD and saving 5 quid. That'll do me. Feel sorry for the bloke now
