Media centre in a 1950s time capsule house just come up for sale in Birmingham. Can anyone identify the equipment?
The amp and tuner in the built in wall unit are Quad. The turntable I don't know but prob Thorens or Garrard?
And is that a large 'portable' record player on the floor too? Odd.

boy oh boy....
Tuner is a Quad 22.
Speakers are Quad ESL57
Turntable is most likely a Garrard 301, given the vintage of the rest of the gear.
Not sure what the reel to reel deck is though, possibly Ferrograph.

I'd have thought that the power amps will be hidden behind the louvres under the turntable. I had some early quad valve amps a long time ago, and they need a big ventilated space, as they produce insane amounts of heat, especially when the tubes are older.

Think it might be an early Revox G36. Valve jobby, like all the rest of the kit.

Ah yes, you are correct.I'd have thought that the power amps will be hidden behind the louvres under the turntable. I had some early quad valve amps a long time ago, and they need a big ventilated space, as they produce insane amounts of heat, especially when the tubes are older.
I also wondered if the power amps were lurking behind the louvres. Quite a good idea too!

Thought I'd share the vintage hifi from my home office - not as vintage as some on the thread but purchased in 1992 means its still over 30 years old.
It's a Sony LBT that my dad bought for himself - first went into the Lounge, then he claimed it for his home office. I inherited it after he passed away then did the same lounge to home office thing.
Everything still works, and thanks to a Chromecast Audio (also now vintage...) it keeps me entertained at work with various Spotify playlists. Turn all the early 90s DSP stuff off and it still sounds pretty good, even on the rare occasions I listen to a tape.
I've also got a Marantz KI Signature amp/cd player in the cupboard, however that needs some work and sentimental reasons mean this stays my main hifi upstairs.

"It's a Sony" & "everything still works" is a tautology. It's a Sony LBT that my dad bought for himself - first went into the Lounge, then he claimed it for his home office. I inherited it after he passed away then did the same lounge to home office thing.

It was quite powerful. On reflection, it had far too many DSP options and modes, but the amplifier levels display was great at the time, of course. The tape deck was quite impressive, with a lot of features.
It lived out its last days in my garden shed/workshop at my old house, gradually failing and then being taken to the tip. If I had it now I would try repairing it!
Recently moved house and uncovered my old hifi, probably not "vintage" admittedly. I used to swap and change, mix and match either good used or budget new separates. Standard Richer sounds fair back then. I found this heavily discounted Onkyo system in a hifi shop local to me when I popped in to talk DAB radio receivers. After going over the specs the salesman thought it work well with these Mordaunt Short speakers. I can't remember if I did a deal there and then, or went back for the speakers later. But these work so well together, many friends of mine have asked how a "budget system" sounded so good. To be honest I can't remember what it all cost, but it can't have been a lot as I didn't have any money back then.
Anyway, I thought it's make or break time. I'm not just going to stick it in the attic for another 10 years, either use it or its going in the charity shop box. so I made a makeshift stand from our now redundant log basket and I must say, it's made the move way more fun.
I've since been googling for WiFi receiver's and thought the Zen blue v2 would make a good upgrade to play off my phone. Any experience with these?

I have those speakers (although in black) and they sound lovely. Mine are being powered by a Marantz amp that I've had both for years, I just can't justify changing them!
I use a cheap DAC to put the TV through them for films which is brilliant and use a Bluetooth streamer for Spotify etc and Im really happy with it all.

Bit of a rabbit hole all this stuff.
Those Tannoy a few posts back are just lovely. I bought a pair of smaller Tannoy a few weeks back on eBay for the princely sum of £10.71. I can't recall the model but I'll check later. I hooked them up to a Pioneer A300, which was a £40 boot fair find in Truro back in the summer.
ETA - Tannoy M15
Any suggestions for an entry level turntable? I used to have a Fons with SME arm back in the day and there's a near identical one on eBay but its £395 so out of budget sadly.
