Skipping back a bit, those Sony midi systems have reminded me that, in amongst all my serious hi-fi tat, i have this scrumptious pile of late 1980s Yamaha loveliness.

It's rather good, despite the turntable being somewhat plasticky and letting the side down a bit, although it sounds respectable enough. I don't have the matching speakers because, frankly, they look rubbish.

I like Yamaha kit. The Honda of the audio world - works great but is often overlooked

Nice! However, I’ve got the daddy - 750W per channel, 61kg and two mains leads!

And quite a lot of other Yamaha equipment besides…

With my serious hi-fi hat on, it’s a very capable machine. It actually has the same internals as Yamaha’s rare top end Japan-only hi-fi power amplifier, the 101M, and the only one I’ve ever seen of those for sale was up for £14,000.

However, in more basic terms, it’s the only amp I’ve ever heard get tight, punchy bass out of a pair of Goodmans Maxim 2s! biggrin

I found some old and some very old brochures when clearing out the loft recently. Hopefully they'll jog some memories of a few. The oldest ones are from Technics' 1977/78 catalogue. I was 13 and saving for my first system.

Loving those brochures.

I suspect they would fetch some money on Ebay.

I'd be interested in them if you wanted to sell them, as I'd scan them for my Vintage Technics website. https://vintagetechnics.audio/

Bought Denon separates in the early nineties Amp, CD player, tape deck and tuner. Linked to Mission speakers has been brilliant. Now linked to Sonos so input from other sources rarely used.

Just what I need. Another website with old stuff to drool over. My Mrs has suggested I'd be better off (and less weird) with porn.
