JBL car speakers

I need to know so that I can disconnect the door tweeters.

Disconnecting them depends on the type of stereo fitted in the car. A lot of amplified factory systems fitted in the last 15 years have separate amplifiers for bass and high frequency speakers. These are often complimented by an active crossover to each of the amplifiers so that the bass speaker amplifier only has to deal with bass frequencies and the tweeter amplifier only deals with high frequencies. If your car is fitted with one of these systems these speakers are not really suited. You will need a set of components or a set that can be bi-amped.Thanks
It is a 1998 e36 BMW 318iS, so not a 'modern' OEM system I would guess.
I have just fitted a simple Kenwood CD/USB/iPod headunit and replaced the OEM front speakers with the JBLs. Although the main fronts are tucked away in the footwells, which is not ideal (!), the sound from this setup is very good.
I have not yet disconnected the OEM door tweeters, .
I am debating whether to also upgrade the rear OEM speakers, or just switch them 'off' ie have the fader setting on full fronts...
I have read various opinions about this, but to me the sound using the fronts only is very good.
