THE ULTIMATE TVR SHOOTOUT DATE IS SET FOR 9th JULY

Calling all TVRs to attend, to show, to watch, and maybe to try your car for the first time on the ¼ mile with friends alike.

Despite the current economic climate I would like to think we can get organised and have the biggest turnout of TVRs at a drag strip. This will probably be at Santa Pod sometime in the summer of 2011.

A date will be agreed upon next summer to make it possible for as many TVRs to attend.

All will be welcome and I hope to see a varied mix of models in all states of tune. Totally standard cars will provide benchmark times to compare to on the day. Maybe a few more will be convinced to pull their cars from the TVR parking area on the day!

A special invite is made to any car that has been modified.
Cars with the ‘usual’ types of modifications such as off the shelf induction/exhausts etc.
Turbo powered, Supercharged, LS engine converted, Nitrous or anything different.

Only 3 distinctions will be made to separate the bar room arguments afterwards.
1. Unmodifieds. Aesthetic and non performance upgrades allowable.
2. Modified in road legal trim.
3. ‘Race’ cars will be classed as cars without MoT, running slick tyres, open headers etc.

This will not be classed as a race day, just an excuse to get as many TVRs gathered at a fantastic venue, to meet fellow owners and to witness these cars in action on the strip.

So this is just the initial idea. All comments, ideas, clash dates etc will be appreciated to help getting this day to be as perfect as possible.

Would this be purley for TVR's. Would we have to rent the the track and all. If so how much do you reckon it would be for say 50 cars. I would deffinately be up for it. (would you lend me your Micky/t's);)
Barrie
I dont think so.
It would be incorporated into a RWYB day or maybe as suggested by Mr Gear above.

I would lend out my MTs if you didnt mind risking rubbing the inner arches. I had to cut and shut mine a little to clear.

Excellent.
A pair af twin turbos already!
I know there are some awesome LS cars up for this too.

I guess we need to look at the calendar for Santa Pod and check all TVR clashes for all possible dates and go from there.

Hi Derek,

I will be there date dependant of course - I also volunteer Graham Varley will be coming in his 4.3 Sagaris.

This is such a easy thing for TVR owners to take part in and really cheap for what you get from it. It does not matter if you car is standard or has a turbo and nitros under the bonnet

Paul.......
Keep an eye on this thread Paul and let us know when you are available. We need to have what may be the fastest street legal TVR in the world there dont we? Brummmie may argue on that one so hopefully we can finally get you both side by side.

How about Saturday 2nd July as a first idea. Should get plenty of track time then its retro day Sunday for those wanting to make a weekend of it.

Your getting ahead of me here Paul.
And you spelt my name wrong tut!

I will compile a full detailed list that will include more from the tvrcc site also.
I think at the last count we had about 16 cars already. If it gets big enough we can even start thinking of hiring the pod to ourselves for a day!

There seem to be the best cars wanting to get involved which is fantastic but we also need to get all the standard cars and 1/4 mile virgins involved. Spread the word people

Maybe we can do this more tha once and another option if we get say 50 definite cars is to hire the track to ourselves for a day. I need to enquire on this option.

how about alternate dates of the 9th 10th July or 23rd 24 July
Hi Richard
I dont see a problem with the 9th it will be good to show up on what is a BMW weekend.

The 23rd /24th is the bugjam which will be far too busy for us to get enough track time i think.

At some point after more discussion we may have to put the date options on a vote thread and let the majority decide.

A thread similar has been placed on the TVRCC forum and has generated further interest.
I have contacted the club regarding their events calendar to try and avoid any clashes with other events.

I dont consider myself to be the sole organiser, just the initial idea was mine. All help with further ideas and organisation will be appreciated.

I will update the list of cars soon. Its steadily growing and some really interesting cars are coming out to play!

All cars in all states of modification are wanted to compare times to.
Whats this about a 'mystery engine' anyway Alex?

Derek share some tips then for us race virgins how to get off the line the best then... smile

After my 2 year build I want a half decent time biglaugh
I am no expert but have done dozens of 1/4 mile runs in 2008/09.
To keep things simple i would say the trick is to try and find the sweet spot.
You need to get off the line and up to full throttle as quick as you can with very little wheelspin if any at all. As we know with a lot of torque in a light car this can be tricky.
Lowering your rear tyre pressures will help with grip from a bigger footprint but softer rubber such as R888s make a big difference. I have a pair of road legal Mickey Thomsons which also have a soft sidewall which helps on launch.
You dont need to hit the rev limit in each gear. It can help to upshift a little early to 2nd and 3rd to avoid breaking traction in these gears.
Make your gearchanges as fast and smooth as possible to keep the car accelerating throughout the run.

Take advantage of the 'roll out' which is the short distance from the stage light to the green. Slowly roll forward into stage and just far enough to light both stage lights. This will give you a little run up before tripping the green and the timer.
Oh and dont worry about your reaction time as this makes no difference to your ET because it is timed from the last amber. You can practice getting the reaction time better when you are more relaxed and are looking to get an advantage over the car next to you.

See here for a new thread dedicated to sort out the final date http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I am no aerodynamic expert but less downforce would equal less drag and may gain you a few mph but i dont think it would have a massive affect on your ET.
Still every hunderdth may count on the day wink

Hi guys. This thread is to sort the date really.
So asking here, how many runs do you think we'll manage to get? biggrin
All depends on how busy it is, weather, track stoppages to clean up idiots coolant (you know who you are!).
Could be anything from none, or lets say on a normal day 6 to 26. Come early and leave late.
