Of all the Batman films, if you were forced to sit through one of them, which would be the best (for an adult audience rather than kids) ?

The Dark Knight by a long stretch. Trouble is, Batman Begins leads into it quite nicely so for someone who's seen neither, I'd suggest BB is almost essential viewing prior to TDK.

Almost certainly The Dark Knight.

The Tim Burton films got everything right apart from the comedy baddies. A shame, as I thought Keaton was the best Wayne/Batman combo.

Watch Batman begins first... it's pretty dam good movie and introduces "this" Batman and the world he lives in nicely. I would not say it's 'almost' essential, I would say it "is" essential.

Then watch The Dark Knight which is uttery brilliant (IMHO)

Another vote for Dark Knight, Begins is very good too.

The Joker makes Dk for me, and that's nothing to do with the actor dying or anything, it's an amazming performance.

Batman Begins and Dark Knight for me too, for the reasons already said. BB introduces the world and story to you, then watch DK.

Absolutely. Before I saw DK I thought that the awards and accolades were due to the untimely demise of the actor in question, BUT once I'd seen it, wow, it is just a truly an oscar worthy performance.

It's very easy to be Batman - minimal dialogue, little acting, mainly action sequences. Whereas being Bruce Wayne - no mask, all acting start to finish IYGWIM. Keaton's interpretation of Wayne was very good, especially when he is talking to the Joker in Vicki Vale's appartment.

I used to watch the TV series on a Saturday morning back in the '70's, and I think I saw the '89 Batman and Batman Returns, but it was so long ago I can't remember much about them. I've not seen any of the recent ones.
