Just finished the documentry of amazing numbers, 'The Code' on BBC HD.
How amazing can a single number be, (even if it goes on forever, (surely there is a limit), )
42 was always the best number through fiction.

How can the answer to many questions be 3.14xxxxx?

Yeah, good viewing. I wondered whether pies are called pies because they're circular. (?)

Because they contain mixed things, akin to piebald horses or a magpie.

I tuned in with bated breath, only to be disappointed: all puff and pretty pictures. (Typical BBC fodder nowadays rolleyes)

I for one would have loved an explanation of what 'imaginary numbers' are and how they work.

None offered. irked

Of course there's no limit, that's the whole point.

The film is pretty good too.

Or for mental calculations 22/7 will get you close enough.

Very true. If we were rebuilding maths from the start there's a school of thought that suggests everything would be much easier if we started with Pi being a whole number and worked back from there.
