To go with the Zombie / Horror film in the other thread, I want to get said mate a top foreign film.

Any recommendations? Thinking along the lines of Mesrine or A Prophet.

Korean film The Chaser is a phenomenal thriller. Really very good.

There's lots of extreme foreign horror too - you could combine gifts and save a couple of quid.

Cheers - that looks really good!

Will stick with the plan as it becoming tradition that we buy each other one excellent film and one dodgy / ;alternative' film.

For instance, last birtday I got The Machinist and I Know Who Killed Me, with a startling performance from Linsay Lohan hehe.

La Haine is very good. I've heard it described as a French Trainspotting which maybe isn't a million miles from the truth but it doesn't have the humour of Trainspotting and is therefore more bleak. Great film though.

I love a good Korean film tbh.

I saw The Good The Bad & The Weird recently, which was extraordinary. A Korean Western set in Manchuria.

I really can't wait to see I Saw The Devil, another Korean thriller which has apparently caused some furore at home because of its extreme brutality.

Indeed, can't go far wrong with anything with Kieslowski's name on it (or Juliette Binoche) for that matter.

How about Let the right one in (Swedish vampire film).

+1 for this, I saw this in 97' in a little indi cinema and loved it. Quiet moody in b&w.
