Third episode is the best so far - first was ok, closed season 3 nicely, ep 2 was funny, but 3 was genuinely laugh out loud.

Anyway, it's not abnormal for some characters to "evolve" in a strange way. Look at the first episodes of friends, I especially find phoebe very inconsistent.

Penny is thinner as the series goes on too, but I prefer her in S1.

There's some inconsitency creeping in with Raj talking with/around women as he doesn't always seem to be pictured with alky-hol all the time - I wonder if they should just state that he'll talk to Penny/Amy/Bernadette but not other women.

First Episode:
Sheldon and Leonard clean Penny's apartment while she is sleeping.

Second Episode:
The boys were helping Penny build an entertainment unit from a well know Swedish flat pack furniture supplier and Leonard + Penny go out to dinner and Leonard bangs his head and gets concussion.

Yes, but his character development has been really good over the 3 series - it's really insightful to see and hear about his Christian upbringing
