Did you notice Harrison Ford too?
I knew he was in it, because he looks and sounds like himself, though it's odd that he has such a minor role after doing Star Wars. I only cracked Laurence Fishburne because we noticed "Larry Fishburne" in the titles and went back to look at both the black characters (PC, I know...) and work out which one he is - his head's changed shape entirely!
I watched this for the first time about a month ago, fantastic film

That is true, but he was a chippy on the make. He'd been around film & TV as a bit part actor since the mid sixties, turning to carpentry when the roles weren't up to much.
I think Ford took the role in Apocalypse Now as a thank-you to Coppola and Lucas (his character is called Lucas) for their help in his career.Hugo a Gogo said:

In an early Johnny Depp movie, Crybaby, one of the guards in the prison he's sent to is played by Willem Defoe.
In another John Waters movie, Hairspray, he cast Debbie Harry, Ric Osasek (lead singer of The Cars) and Sonny Bono in minor roles.
A favourite (B&W) film of mine is Wings of Desire starring Bruno Gantz. Peter Falk actually plays himself in it- but he's also an angel..
A great leap for a player is to go from this: http://pictomat.files.wordpress.com/2010/08/bride-...
To this: http://www.wearysloth.com/Gallery/ActorsL/9780-122... the nanny in Mary Poppins before the titular character turns up.
The wonderful Elsa Lanchester- born in Lewisham!

"Stars" also often make their debuts in stage productions.

Hagman also followed his mum to London in the early 1950s when she also took the lead in "South Pacific" when it opened in the West End.
Also included in that original London cast were a young Sean Connery and a very young June Whitfield.
Another well known TV actor who made a stage debut at a very young age was Tony Robinson, who was part of Fagin's boy gang in the original 1961 London production of "Oliver".
