MI5 has a much broader intake these days and Bond needs to reflect that.

Jimmy Nail.
Craig was from Merseyside. wink
Yeah, but he still puts on a poncey voice.

That's because he's from Chester, part of the Cheshire set.

Brought up there, which is nice enough for you weirdies, but born in Chester, I'm not from Chester so am not trying to own him!...Sadly my nearest hive of scum and villainy is Warrington...
This is for those outside of civilisation who think that Merseyside = scouse, Cilla Black and the Beatles.

After seeing Craig as Bond, whomever is next needs to be believable that he can fight and kill. Most of the names thus far mentioned...laugh
Idris Elba...sheeeeeeettttt, now he I can believe!

Before Craig I used to want Purefoy, or Owen....I now see those as hopeless and incorrect choices.
Jimmy Nail would indeed be closer.

You are from Wareington? Eeww! I used to visit the deligh that was Mr Smiths near the roundabout. It was almost as easy as 'The Tower' in Hull. Used to boy race in Warrington as well. hehe

In the original books Bond was described as looking rather like the actor Hoagy Carmichael:

Unless there is going to b a period Bond (a good idea imo), any sort of past references are best forgotten I believe. Craig was good, a roughneck who could do you some mischief, Hardy would be perfect, save for his height...then again, why not, does Bond need to be tall? That is one of those preconceived ideas stuck in the past. He can be short, black or a woman...so long as he is still English (and not a yank biggrin)

So we need modern day equivalent like, erm, Jamie Cullum?

In the books Fleming always goes on about him being six foot and having slightly cruel good looks.
So, me then.

I hope anyone who suggested James McAvoy watched Top Gear last night and now realises their error.

Tiny bloke with ginger beard. Totally unsuitable.

Ian Fleming's descriptions of Bond should have nothing to do with casting in my opinion. Fleming never said anything about Bond driving an Aston Martin but did say that Bond smoked 80 cigarettes a day.

Apart from the Aston Martin he drove in the Goldfinger book, of course. wink

I think it is pretty tough to guess who could be suitable in 4-5 years time, of the suggestions so far I would like to see Fassbender in the role.

Daniel Craig is 44 but he is in great shape and could probably pull the role off for another 5 years, they just need to get the film/direction standard back up to Casino Royale.
