The thought of impending death will do funny things to reasoned thought it would seem.

I suppose it's just self-denial or just that it always affects *other* people. It came as a bit of a shock to me just viewing it that he was told that he could have just 3 months to live. Apart from the bloating etc he did appear to be fairly intelligent and able to understand issues, he also didn't actually look desperately ill, so he's able to fool himself. I guess the other symptoms only become more obvious (if at all) when you're really in the last few days/weeks.

I just found it terribly sad for all concerned (but very well handled by Louis)

If you can cure the source of the problem, you can often stop the addiction.
At least one person in the show did seem to be drinking to block something out of their mind.

And is it my imagination, but are their some specific alcohol products that are simply aimed at alcoholics?

I thought Louis had said he'd been in that state for 9 months hence the guy saying he must be in the 24% as the doc had stated that a 3 month period would account for 76% of those in that condition?

I'm genuinely surprised you even question it really. Ever seen those super cheap but strong bottles of cider in corner shops? They are sold almost exclusively to alcoholics. I mean have you ever tasted one of those products? They are vile, basically undrinkable and only those that need to get drunk and cheaply as possible would buy them. Then you have things like alcopops which are basically aimed at under age drinkers.

OK it is the guardian but they are quoting that 60% of drinks industry sales are generated by problem drinkers.

Alcohol is incredibly damaging to society and the fact that availability has gone up and prices down over recent years really makes a mockery of our drugs policy. Alcohol is damaging millions of lives but all our politicians are interested in is faffing around changing Cananbis from a category B to a C and back again, or debating whether to ban "poppers" which only a tiny tiny % of the population use anyway.

Mmmmmmmm. K for breakfast. I like K too, but not for breakfast!! We make it at work and it use to be about 40p a can for 1/2 a litre of 8.4% loveliness in the staff shop.Use to be able to get pissed for £1.20.Given up buying it now as its gone up to about 65p a can. And if its in the house, I drink it. Only way to give up drinking it, is not to buy it. We make plenty of other shiite white ciders and your taste buds have got to be seriously wrong to drink them. One can of K 500ml is over the daily recommended allowance so we had to start putting it into 330ml cans to keep the "responsible drinking" people happy. Serious research on the effect of K is required ..............

I took it to mean that a man in his current condition has a 76% chance of living another 3 months.

This programme was a gut wrencher. Nice to see the well spoken lad at the end...but will it last?

Didnt they say that at one point he had been dry for 3 years then fell off the wagon or did I imagine it?

I must admit that when I was training for London last year I had no alcohol for 16 weeks and after a month or so didnt really miss it once it is out of your routine.

Even now I dont drink nearly as much as I did and really dont see the appeal of people who think that getting hammered on Friday night, sleeping it off on Saturday then repeating it again on Saturday night makes for a 'good' weekend. What a waste of two days off (and money)...

Thanks. I think I'm being deliberately naive because I find it hard to believe that the industry is allowed to exploit vulnerable people.

Doesn't matter either way, he's in end stage liver disease that there's no medical way back from; he might make a miraculous recovery but more likely will slowly decline and die. It might be 5 months or it might be 5 years but by any sensible definition he's dying.

It didn't go anywhere. Any time Louis challenged their views or actions they couldn't answer. They just became aggressive and insulting to avoid any debate. I'm not sure why they agreed to go on.

Anything they were challenged about being unacceptable the standard line was it's only fun and not to be taken seriously. They were just a bit weird.

The video the guy sent to the woman was bad.

Same here, thought it wasn't covering any new ground at all. I'd have been far more interested if it covered the Sovereign Citizen movement in America which seems to be gain traction both over there and in this country. The stupidity is strong with them.

Mind you I have gone off Theroux a great deal since I read his autobiography, he seems to have developed into a very emotionally cold & slightly odd person himself.
