Dust devil is excellent. Another SA ( think it was SA) film came out at about the same time with a killer robot but can't remember what it was called.
That was Hardware - Dust Devil was (I think) made or written by the same people and came out after Hardware.

Did many people see 'Identity', quite a creepy horror starring John Cusack? Made more creepy for me by the date, which is a key part of the plot, also being my own birthday.

I saw Hardware around the same time but I don't think I ever knew it was the same people. Makes sense now I think about it.

Sneakers.

Little remembered, fantastic story and a cast like an Oscars night.

Favourite line? Repeatedly... "My voice is my passport. Verify me."

Best moment? Deliberating how to best to get through a keypad protected door.

Once Were Warriors - A rather brutal NZ film about a Māori family. Had one of the guys from Shortland Street in it if you remember that from TV in the '90s

I think that's pretty well known and highly regarded.

Yesterday I watched 'The Greasy Strangler'. Absurd, purile, just plain mental really. It's a bit Vic and Bob, crossed with Troma. I loved it, but it won't be to everyone's taste.

Wadjda

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wadjda

A very long way from most of the films mentioned.

It's a simple but charming tale that at the same time made me angry.
The wholesale subjugation of women and their complicity in this abuse is minutely challenged by Wadjda.
A drop in the ocean struggle for greater freedom and respect for girls and women.

This film will only appeal to a minority.

My friends are obviously a bunch of philistines then as none of them have ever heard of it when I mention it. It may be time for new friends... biggrin
