Fifth Gear new series

I'm guessing that Ben Collins will not be seen again, they sent Plato to drive a much faster Dragster than the one they used him for last series.
Both of the dragsters (Plato / Collins) were built for the same class.. Plato quoted the 1/8th mile time.. Nice to see some 1320 action on mainstream TV though, we'll be doing it again with RV3 at some point,,
Thanks for pointing me towards this - I gave up on Fifth Gear a long time ago but just watched one of these new ones and was highly interesting and enjoyable throughout. A proper, unexpected, surprise
Well done to Five for bringing it back from the dead and making a proper car show for car people. I think this will prove to be the final nail in my Top Gear-watching coffin.

After watching the first two episodes last night, and the main parts of this weeks offering of Fifth gear this morning, I can honestly say the team really have listened to what has been said on this forum in the past. They have neatly filled the void TopGear have lost; a show for petrol heads. Not the entertainment show that is TG.
VBH is still a little annoying with her childish over exuberant laughing/groaning, but apart from that, the show is vastly improved. And I'm so glad they have stopped trying to mimmic TG in the comedy stakes, as it was painfully embarassing last year.
I have gone from being a Fifth Gear basher in 2010, to a fan in 2011 in one foul swoop. I'll be defending the show next!

I have always liked Fifth Gear but the last couple of seasons they lost their way. Now though, they are back in buisness and have watched all three now.
IMO VBH isn't that bad but I see what everyone is saying, Plato seems a nice chap, Johnny has got better and Tiff Needel is the man!
Last Nights Episode (I will try and go in order):
The Ferrari FF is a nice car, and now I know that what FF stands for. The shootout between the BMW and XF was enjoyable but I thought the Jag looked a bit cheap and tacky with all that stuff added on. The Team Test is back!! I have seen a few of these new Micra's on the road and they look small and boring. They came to the right conclusion in that the Suzuki Swift was a better car for the money.
Finally that Dragster. It was immense!! What a sight to see! The front wheels actually lifted off the floor!
Can't wait till next week!
I must point out though, IMO I thought Tiff could of done a slightly better review of the FF

I always watch on sky+ and to be honest although I really like it, It takes 15 minutes to watch when you take out the ads, the win a car competition, what's on next week and title/closing credits! A lot better than TG now IMO.
I know what Plato was on about when he was standing next to that insane dragster, there is NOTHING like hearing and feeling one of those mental machines!
On a side note....they said that track was the only one to be recognised by the US Hot Rod Assc outside the US. Isn't Santa Pod a recognised track and if not, why not?

Anyone with any interest in the internal combustion engine should see a Top Fuel dragster run at least once. For me, it was many years ago at Santa Pod, and the abiding memory is just the violence of the launch - the noise, the smell, and, as Plato said, the physical effect of the sound.Lets Torque said:

The thing that I like is how genuinely enthusiastic they are about (good) cars and driving and that they communicate this excitement and enjoyment so well. I think Plato is great at this aspect which is remarkable given his background as it would be so easy for him to get 'spoiled' and blase about 'ordinary' road based machines, especially on track, yet he seems to be loving the job. Plus, he tells it like it is and doesn't mince his word about poor cars/poor set up.IMO VBH isn't that bad but I see what everyone is saying, Plato seems a nice chap, Johnny has got better and Tiff Needel is the man!
