I've heard from many people that Polo Storico (the Lamborghini classic department) is shockingly bad.

Didn't Harry have issues with bits they supplied for the Espada?
That was his Countach gearbox, I think. They had quietly changed the design of some gearbox parts without mentioning that you also needed to buy the updated mating parts, so after waiting many weeks for your parts to arrive you then had to wait many more weeks after discovering you had to order more parts.
Correct, it was on his Countach gearbox, I seem to remember that Ian had a gear made in the end as it was not available from Lamborghini.
The distributor problems on his Espada are also caused by inferior parts from them IIRC. So basically it’s both Lamborghini’s…

John Temerian (Curated) and Ed Bolian (VinWiki) seem to be on a mission to hype up prices using every bit of influence they have and prices do look to be a lot higher in the US compared to Europe.
It is not like they have vested interests in the market or anything!
How many does Ed own?

None of the manual SVs have sold lately, but any of the 7 (5 well known, 2 believed) would likely do $3M+ US today. Several manual LP640s have sold between $1.0-1.3M and several E-Gear SVs have sold between $1.1-1.5M. The US market seems to be 20-30% ahead of the ROW. $1.5M in a private LP670 transaction is the highest Murci deal I have heard of.

There are 5-6 manual LP640s in the US in top-tier colors and/or condition that easily could do $1.5-2M if offered for sale today, including the 08 Verde Ithaca coupe I owned from 2014-2016. Most of these cars have found forever/long term homes and are unlikely to sell in the near future.

In the US, there is only 1 Verde Ithaca LP670 and only 1 Monterey Blue LP670 (similar to this car). There are other 1 of 1 SVs but either of these cars in the most desirable colors would bring $1.6-1.8M today but none of the owners are interested in selling.

If this Monterey Blue 07 were 100% original with <5k miles I am confident it would bring $1.5M this afternoon.

There are several people in the US with multiple manual 640s, myself included but that has generally seemed very deliberate. The only real car that this one serves as a comp for is my Verde Draco car since they are similar in miles and originality. The last few big manual Murci transactions have been people's first Murcis, many times their first Lamborghini.

Thank you all so very much. I truly appreciate all the kind words and messages, both public and private. Excited to have 3 gated 640s in the garage. They are truly the greatest cars ever!

I linked to this channel on here about a year ago. I'm impressed with the standard of their work and how they prep the 911's for resale. If I was in the market for a used 996/997 I'd be in touch with them.

Basically they changed 2 bits and didnt tell anyone you need both as neither works with the other original bit.
Not knowing that Ian T only ordered 1 part.

To be fair Harry and Ian have said now its done its the quietest Countach gearbox they've ever experienced.

They invariably change the top mounts and wet mop the cars, not sure it goes much further than that tbh. They have been discussed many times on the "Early 996" thread, some of their business practices raise an eyebrow. Selling cars but stripping "nice" upgrades (seats, wheels etc that are in the advert photos) out first, charging silly money for red/yellow cars, that sort of thing.

Oh so basically the same stuff that if it was done by a white bloke (e.g WhistlinDiesel), everyone would be gobbling his knob and calling him the pinnacle of entertainment.

Does Ed have other income streams or does he make all his money from VinWiki?

Seems very lucrative.

Vinwiki doesn’t make any money. It’s only his YouTube videos that generate revenue associated with the vinwiki app. Not trying to be a pedantic git, just separating the two.

Ed and I had a good email chat as I was considering buying his 599. He was completely transparent with the condition even before the videos he made and told me it wasn’t the car for me. We had a virtual laugh and told him to sell it to a manual swap company. He said that was the plan.

I do wonder if Ed was planning on buying the Murci. His bid was not on the final day of bidding and normally you see a bunch of bids towards the end of the auction. I thought when he put his bid in that a high sale price would benefit his collection. Just like art.

Hoovies Murci is struggling at $126k with 18 hours to go. Is there really $600k difference? The original price delta would be less than $50k (total guess). When new, the e-gear was optional and manual was standard. I do know there’s a lot more to the differences. But, a LP640 with optional e-gear is worth half of the standard car.

If you think Lamborghini Classic Department are bad, wait until you have to deal with Maserati... Sure, it would probably make for great content for your channel, but as an owner, the experience is beyond frustrating. It really feels like Maserati wants us to forget any cars made by them before 2022...

P.S. Should your car develop a wheel bearing fault, you should be able to buy a new one from Maserati sometimes around April 2024! Yes, I am not joking. Your Skyhook struts are officially NLA, if you want to change intake gaskets, you have to buy the whole intake etc....

P.S.1 My offer of the Manthey 996.1 GT3 CS still stands.

P.S.2. Your Maserati GranTurismo reviews helped push me over the edge.

Sounds a lot like some people are busy talking their own book? That's always a good sign!

Really not seeing the value in some of these things given the price differentials that have apparently appeared for very little, unless people are just treating them as a pure speculative investment and hoping the greater fool is around when they need it. That always goes well.

Twas ever this! Ferrari have always been far easier to deal with for spares and the like. In fact, I know many Maserati owners buy the Ferrari branded bit to save money - bit mad!
