Regarding the Jogger, didn’t it fall foul of 50mpg rule? Having said that, is it that less economical buying a £17k car that does 46mpg versus a £40+k car that does 50+mpg?
Indeed, although if people REALLY care about economy and costs they wouldn't buy a brand new car in my opinion TyrannosauRoss Lex said:

Forgive me if this sounds like a personal dig because it isn't meant to be. And I know you aren't the only one to talk of FFing through the bits you don't like. But how do you decide which bits to FF through and how far do you go? In my life experience, sticking with things is often good because sometimes you get a surprise and things actually turn out well. And in the case of TG, the whole programme is only 1 hour anyway. I guess I'm just a bit obsessive about completing things though. Which isn't necessarily a good trait.
No worries. I'm just very picky with the things I like that's all. I generally just enjoy it if they are driving cars that I personally like, or if they are reviewing cars that I like. For example there wasn't anything in the whole of the first/third/fourth episodes of this series that interested me, but I did enjoy a fair bit of the second episode though. I've still got episode 5 to watch of this series, so there might be bits in that one that I will like too. I tended to like Fifth Gear more in the earlier years because I like watching car reviews and lap battles between cars etc. However I appreciate that YouTube is the place that you go to for that sort of stuff now though.
Top Gear actually does well to keep on going on TV in this day and age I reckon. I've never liked/enjoyed all the pratting about/silly stuff that they do, however I appreciate that I'm in a very small minority regarding that though.
The van segment was boring and the supercar bit was as utterly irrelevant as all the other multimillion pound hypercars, moreso as it was really a 300k car dressed up as a 2m car.
The consumer segment was actually alright despite the arbitrary nature of it.
The Hyundai did genuinely seem like a good car. The Renault was so slow, wonder which engine it had fitted, quite an achievement to come last despite the headstart. The Berlingo was massive inside, they could just walk into the different seats which I thought was quite a good demonstration despite the fact you'd rarely actually do it.
I also thought the Pug looked really good but £56k, what a joke, has to be a contender for heaviest deprecating new car available unless they only make 50 of them.
They also dropped the ball with EV's, yes they're automatically more efficient but that doesn't make them necessarily cheaper to run. Should have set them a limit of 3 or 4 miles per kWh minimum.

I don't think the supercar sections are irrelevant. It's an entertainment show. People often like seeing features on very expensive cars, and always have done. As an entertainment show, I'd say the supercar sections are totally relevant.
People don't want to watch features on a Mondeo vs some other box saloon and hear about its boot capacity and how easy it is to get in and out of. See the popular Fifth Gear.

Yeah it's a strange time for Top Gear and I'm not sure supercars are the draw they once were. When Top Gear started back in the early 2000s a new supercar was still an event. Now there are seemingly loads of them. A new Ferrari seems to appear every few months to the point where I can't even remember the names of them all any more.People don't want to watch features on a Mondeo vs some other box saloon and hear about its boot capacity and how easy it is to get in and out of. Also, we were still chasing the stats back then. There was still plenty of scope for horsepower to go up and 0-60 times to come down. Each series might reveal where somebody had made a leap.
Since then, electric cars have made the internal combustion 0-60 metric look silly and horsepower in production cars is no longer a stat to blow your mind. A comfortable 4 door saloon with over six hundred horsepower is no longer such an outrageous notion that you'd bring it up in conversation. It has reached a plateau.
At the other end of the market, the cheap car adventures and road trip stuff is being well covered by YouTube. They may not have the production quality or budget but they can certainly compete on entertainment and comedy.
Going on what I've been reading and watching, I reckon the only conventional sports car that held my attention in 2022 is the Lotus Emira.

Without derailing the thread to much, the road trips are what I like most from the CHM Top Gear years. What are the best YouTube channels for that sort of stuff ?

Car Throttle does budget stuff. What are the best YouTube channels for that sort of stuff ?
Auto Alex does too, although he only seems to have one friend.
Car Trek is big budget, although I'm not convinced they're actually friends at all.

Always loved car throttle but does anyone know why Alex left? The car adventures he did with the other two were always fun. He does fly the flag well though for the modern classic. Auto Alex does too, although he only seems to have one friend.

As for top gear overall I thought it was a good series. Plenty of car content and still fun. People just like to knock it.

I didn't know he had. They're not my favourite channels.ETA: 'creative reasons' apparently. But he will continue to work with CT as a freelancer.
