Netflix - What gems have you found? (NO SPOILERS) (Vol. 2)
Discussion
The Railway Men Indian mini series about the Bhopal Gas Tragedy in the 80s. We watched it in one go yesterday, and whilst I wouldn't say it was typically light Saturday afternoon viewing, it was very compelling and really well made. Lots of tales of everyday heroes and surprisingly decent human beings, along with the more tragic stories.
Definitely worth a watch, probably and 8/10 for me.
Also watched the Robbie documentary - living near Stoke he's a local hero and most people have some sort of Robbie based story. I used to get golf lessons off his brother in law, who always said what a lovely guy he was behind the showbiz side.
Again, very well made and I did have a huge amount of sympathy for him around the Leeds gig - facing that kind of pressure with his history of mental health problems must have been a nightmare - albeit a very well rewarded one.
I'll give that 7/10, a point deducted for excessive Stokie accents.

Has anyone been watching All The Light We Cannot See? Interested to here any reviews...
I have just finished the whole series.I didn't think I would like this , but I was pleasantly surprised . Superbly acted and well worth a look.
Its a four part series... 1 hour a piece. Wonderful acting, beautiful cinematography, superb story set in WW2 mostly in St Malo and Paris.
Hugh Laurie, Mark Ruffalo.. the utterly amazing Aria Mia Loberti and Louis Hofmann (young chap in 'Dark')
One to watch with your better half... have tissues at the ready.
Then a quick Wiki uncovered the fact that the producers specifically wanted a blind/visually impaired actress to play the role.
So it turns out that Loberti is legally blind. Also this was her first ever audition/acting role….

Nyad is worth watching,tough girl.
Worth falling down the did she didn't she wormhole too. It’s not just her Cuba swim but many of her claims about records that simply aren’t true.
Hopefully this film will end up shining more of a spotlight on her story as she’s not a very pleasant individual.

Blue Eye Samurai - Really good anime series. Would definitely recommend.
Started it and saw it is in English...doesn't feel quite rightWill persevere as it has a lot of good reviews.
Hmm.
Cold pursuit
I saw this at the cinema a few years back. I hadn't planned on it, but my car was getting serviced, and I had a couple of hours to kill so wandered in. I really enjoyed it. I watched it again last night. Dark, funny and engaging. I've not seen the original, so I'll have to hunt that out.
All the light we cannot see
Very nicely shot and engrossing. I watched all 4 episodes in a day.
Suburra Eterna
Not as good as the original 3 seasons of Suburra. A bit played out but still enjoyable. It's similar to Gomorrah but not quite as good.

The Fall of the House of Usher
Just finished it this weekend, I have to say I loved it. Amazing performances from the cast all round with some brilliant character work and writing. I find he really paces his shows well across the entire run, there was never an episode where I was waiting for something to happen or felt like was filler.
Carla Gugino was outstanding throughout especially the last episode, a hauntingly beautiful performance.

That tt that fked up all the new Poirot films?
Hmm.
I'm glad I'm not alone in this viewpoint! MotOE was passable (at best), however, DotN was execrable and just rammed home how much better Ustinov was (to be fair Ustinov must be a toughie to surpass!). Not sure I'll bother with the latest effort Hmm.

Hmm.
At least in Blue Eye Samurai he had to deliver a load of dialogue with the direction that he had to do this to sound like his Scottish character was being diddled up the arse at the time, by a prostitute role-playing a Japanese version of Pinocchio.
That must have really stretched his inspirations.
The idea of someone getting an actor to jump through that hoop makes me laugh almost as much as some of the insane voiceover dialogue Lance Reddick used to do.

As a student back in the 90's I saw Kenneth Branagh as Hamlet at a RSC production at the Barbican in London. Back when he was "just" an upcoming incredibly gifted actor. Sadly as he got older, and more of a 'luvvie', and also got into directing, he has become less appealing.
However, at the time (and for several years after) I could tell people how I had seen Branagh as Hamlet and people would reply "Oh my goodness that must have been amazing!"
I guess that is no longer the case now.
I re-watched November 13: Attack on Paris and it was as outstanding as I remember, a must watch.
The absolute balls of the policemen who went through the door in the Bataclan at the very end of the whole thing, their ballistic shield took 27 AK47 rounds from ~5m. Hard to imagine what that must have felt like.
Still unbelievable to think nobody other than the terrorists were killed in that small corridor crammed with people.
