The more I read about the history of Discovery the more I understand why many longtime Trek fans loathe it. A corporate box ticker, cynically designed to appeal to existing fans as a cashcow to launch a whole series of other ST cash cows by people with no experience of working on Trek (or even enjoying it when they were younger).

“It’s not part of the existing ST universe, get over it” they say (but let’s now put Pike and Spock in there...tick!). Actually it’s not part of the existing ST universe because...legally they’re not allowed to say it is; they don’t own the rights but t do own the name and want to milk it (understandably from a corporate POV).

Fronted by possibly the worst series lead any of the series has ever had.

Still, as a SF series in its own right, it works, for people who like SF action series. I could enjoy it for what it is if Burnham wasn’t so bad. Bringing back her Asian former captain (or mirror version) seems lazy though. Maybe I’ve just watched too much tv and little surprises me anymore.

Is that Isaacs chap still the captain? Anyhoo, I work with his brother who is a psychiatrist. A really nice chap.

I've known him for years but only learned about his brother last week, even though I watched the first few episodes when they came out. Now I know, the resemblance is obvious.

I've not asked. But, it must be rubbish being the brother of a Star Trek captain. You'll lose in any top trumps, whatever you'd achieved.

Sadly he got killed off. He was the strong lead the series needs.

I have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of him.

I think you could be right. As long as it doesn’t get stupid with reincarnations I can live with some time line alterations to ‘bring back’ some better characters.

Hopefully he killed Burnham and wore her skin as a disguise. That’d kill two birds with one stone hehe

I didn't like this at all - We will be seeing her true colours, I'm sure

Yeah - which, frankly is really lazy. "ooh look, a pantomime villain up to no good and nobody knows". Pfft!

Does make me laugh when they try and explain away differences logically when they had bugger all to do with ST originally and its all just the idea of whoever is in charge of writing this one.

I prefer Worf's explanation: "We don't like to talk about it" hehe

All the people I know that like sci-fi really enjoyed ST Discovery. All of them familiar with various versions of Trek, although none of them Trekkies. And yet here on the internet the majority opinion is that it’s complete rubbish, and not really Start Trek at all.

Maybe I’m missing something, but I love the show, and I have no problem considering it part of the Star Trek franchise.
Maybe should try asking a Trekkie....

Crucially, for those who pretend they liked this (or perhaps genuinely like it, we are in a world of Idiocracy after all), how many have actually bought the box set, and will watch any episode more than once? How many would actually pay to watch any more of this, if it wasn't already on a platform they pay for anyway?

After watching the latest trailer, my son, the si-fi guru tells me the time line is all mucked up, he said Disco was bad enough, as a ship which super advanced tech which SOMEHOW vanishes from Trek history but now Spock is there with Pike and the ship and new aliens?! I mean it might be fun and good (hopefully) but they have messed the time-line up so much now!

Personally not that I care, but thought just to pass that on.
