Hurrah! Simon Mayo back in the drivetime slot from end March with the same shouty sports bloke and no doubt some confessions. Greatest Hits Radio so ads, but still good news. Bye bye Sara Cox.
I missed the bit about Greatest Hits and just wanted it to be BBC R2.Oh well. Good for Simon
Thinly veiled comments on the film podcast suggest bridges have been burned between Simon and the Beeb, wildest of horses etc. Simon's matches.
The "Breakfast slot" is a fascinating study; I'm tetchy in the morning M to F (but peachy at all other hours of course) and that broadcast space has to be very compliant to my mood to have any duration on the dial. Grew up with Mike Read, Simon Mayo (not Tarrant but only because I was fulfilled by the state supplied safety, see SwapShop vs Tiswas) but longest on the dial was our Terry. Safe hands, warm voice, bit of innuendo but non confrontational, nice. Irritated by Evans on the radio, liked him on toothbrush and tfi on the box though. Dabbled with xfm, forget his name, great sounds but formula got stale, then Keaveny on 6m, same. Do like his afternoon slot when I'm in work mode now though. And the roll in to Lamacq for "drive".
Combination of Tim and Classic fm's safe playlist has been our constant for more than a couple of years now, a perfect formula for an non-antagonising breakfast soundtrack. The search will no doubt continue when he moves, hopefully not on the cards yet!
I too found Sarah Cox pleasantly entertaining when she stood in on R2 breakfast but now quite unlistenable on her own show. I guess the difference between following the sacred breakfast formula and a freer reign.
Steve "love the show" is the last dino, same format and slot for 35+ years now?
Not-guilty R2 pleasures are Liza Tarbuck (daft aunt with imaginative tunes) and Paul O'Grady. Can't put finger on Paul, just ahh, ok, I'll keep that on..... Ken Bruce never grates but watch that midday switch to Daily Mail Vine.

Having been on furlough for the last 5 mths, I have reached the conclusion that apart from Ken Bruce, Radio 2 is crap these days.

Love Charles...... until he opens his mouth.
Lisa Tarbuck is the human equivalent of watching paint dry and I always get the impression she thinks nobody is listening - probaly not far wrong.
Gary Davies and Ken Bruce are head and shoulders above the rest.
Jeremy Vine is a slimeball.
Rylan is a f***ing idiot.
Alan Carr is someone I can't stand but can just tolerate when he's with Melanie Sykes. on his own, never.

Claudia Winkelman is just as annoying on the radio as on tv but at least you can't see her stupid fringe!
Tarby jnr is growing on me though.
I’ve heard her previously when she’s been in to cover and those shows I’ve enjoyed. Tarby jnr is growing on me though.
OJ Burge midnight until 2/3am is also very good. Often when on U.K. hols stay up late and have him on in the background.
