TV personalities who randomly disappear

James Burke was a big noise at the BBC a few decades back, happy to throw money at a
number of science based series, then like Edmonds, he and Beeb fell out then he disappeared.
Not even had a gig on Pointless, bugger all.
I really enjoyed his shows, back in the day, especially Connections. Pleased that there may be an update. number of science based series, then like Edmonds, he and Beeb fell out then he disappeared.

Simon Dee. He was on the simon dee show.
Then dissapeared along with the simon dee show. Was it a coincidence?
Simon Dee (Nicholas Henty-Dodd) was extremely popular from the mid to late Sixties with his talk show. He had top A listers and Mega Stars as guests. But, at contract renewal time, he wanted a large pay rise or he would go to a rival station The BBC called his bluff. And er...that's it.Then dissapeared along with the simon dee show. Was it a coincidence?

There’s a new absolute ste ch5 show they keep plugging starting soon which is ‘Celebs on the farm’. Total garbage. Expect to see a few off this thread on it, and even others you’ve forgotten you’ve forgotten
I wonder if there will be a repeat of the Rebecca Loos pleasuring a pig incident Fundoreen said:

Interesting biog about him (Whatever Happened to Simon Dee?). He did get employed occasionally on radio in later life but he always acted like he was still "the Simon Dee" and irritated anyone in a position to help him. His own worst enemy, ultimately. Then dissapeared along with the simon dee show. Was it a coincidence?

I was surprised to find that his background is in languages (useful though it might be for a communicator), not science. Of course, in his day TV scientists were wacky types like Patrick Moore, Magnus Pyke and Heinz Wolff.
Now you're talking! The original Great Egg Race, where they built contraptions to, err, race eggs, was IMO the best television show of all time! Halmyre said:

I'm just not particularly interested in mixing humour and politics. As you've guessed, most political comedians are on the other side of the spectrum from me, but I'm not sure I'd find a right wing comedian any more enjoyable.
Political satire in a more traditional sense (of mocking the politician I suppose) I can still appreciate but reducing complex issues to a comedy routine only seems to work for people who like their ideas simplistic.
As an example, I found everything about Corbyn hilarious. The outcome of his attempts to please both wings of the Left (eg nuclear subs with no missiles) was a satirist's dream. But I'm not sure I'd find someone mocking his beliefs and principles funny, however much I disagree with them.
But as far as the dull cliche thing, well it is really isn't it? It's not like Newman is the first.
Celebrities have every right to spout their opinions on everything, but I have every right to treat their opinions with the respect they deserve.
It's rare to encounter much nuance in such cases, let's put it like that.

I find it fascinating. Many comedians in particular seem to be libertarian and hold what are sometimes accurately, sometimes lazily classed as left wing views. I do not mind politics and comedy together, when it's done well it can be wonderful, provocative, clever. When it's done badly (Ben Elton etc...) it is akin to going to church and having a bad preacher telling you what you must think.

Look at PH favourite Nish Kumar - Political satire is now 99% like they stopped music after Depeche Mode and went "right, all music is now cover bands doing Depeche Mode. Nothing else ever. New and interesting? No. Want to listen to The Beatles? No - those views are outdated now and you're probably a racist."
