I now keep noticing the temperatures that Harry has the climate set at...it’s 23 in the Yaris GR and 22 in a number of other cars. I always drive at 21 but most of the year with the heated seats on (not in summer)
I’m glad I am not the only weirdo 19.5 for me - all year round.

Half Degrees are just wrong, and ought not be allowed in a civilised society. They serve no purpose other than doubling the number of button presses needed to get to an agreeable temperature.(18 summer, 20 winter, 22 allowed if you have been outside in the cold for a length of time and need warming up on the drive home)

I look into other peoples cars as they drive around thinking how poorer they must be for having to compromise by being either a little too hot or a little too cold.
I however, in my high-end tatty Korean hatchback, am absolutely lording it up by being at precisely the right temperature for my rich little British skin.

I would be asleep at the wheel with the temperature on a constant 22 degrees.
It's a Mercedes W124. If you hit anything, you'd be fine. In fairness, if you are not already wafted to sleep before you even consider the cabin temperature, the car must be broken

According to these guys https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4RwkeqyUvs a Civic Type R is better so you would imagine the Megane would be better still.
It isn't the Circuit Pack car in the comparison.
I also think the Yaris is a very UK car with our often wet, narrow and poorly surfaced roads making 4wd a much bigger factor than it is for lots of other places.
The only GR Yaris time I have seen on a UK circuit so far, is Jason Plato's lap of Castle Combe for 5th gear which was a very impressive 1:17.72. I can't find a time at the same track for the Civic Type R, but an old Autocar handling day had a Megane 275 Trophy (not Trophy R) go round in 1:19.4. So the Yaris is pretty tidy on track. You're right about the Yaris being a UK car and I want to see someone (Harry?) do a back to back comparison on cross country roads in rainy conditions between Yaris and Civic. I know the Civic is supposed to be good in the wet around a track, but what is it like on wet bumpy B roads with all that power just going to the front wheels? Magazines just don't do those sorts of tests! Its always a dry racing track.......It isn't the Circuit Pack car in the comparison.

I seem to recall an Evo article where they mentioned the CTR was 'taking chunks' out of the competitors in the wet, and the competition was well above it, so presumably it was ECOTY, I'll see if I can find mention of it. acme said:

Found a link on you tube to some lap times around Tsukuba https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mb4T2br9m28Yaris GR lapped 1:06.946. Compares with 1:05.97 for FK8 Civic Type R and interestingly 1:06.88 for the old E46 M3 CSL.......
However, Fastest laps.com has a different entry for Tsukuba (Nobuteru Taniguchi which is two seconds faster at 1:04.81, putting it almost level with the F80 M4.....
Is the GRY really a competitor for the CTR, Megane, Golf R etc? I don't think so. It's a class-size below, so to my mind it's a Fiesta, Mini etc rival. Clearly it is leading that class by some margin and punches above it's weight, but so it should given that it is priced a class-above.
