It amazes me how they manage to keep it up all the time. Brits have a switch. Americans just wind it up to 11 and try to keep it there.

The Royal Marines beat their US counterparts in a major exercise recently, so comprehensively that the US Marines asked if they could start again half way through. I'm sure this bloke is formidable enough, but it confirmed my view that the British lads have far more credibility.
There was also a Seals versus SBS event a while back and the seals ended up on saline drips.

This was one of the few programmes that both the wife and I could watch and (mostly) enjoy, so I was delighted when it popped up when I switched on the TV. Five minutes of listening to shouty, aggressive, macho-man was all it took before we looked at each other and agreed that he made it unwatchable; disappointing.

TBF, my cousin's son recently failed SAS recruitment training for the second time, due to heat exhaustion (again) somewhere out in gulf. He's a very fit, strong and intelligent lad and I am gutted for him (even though a carrer elsewhere in the forces is in no doubt), but... it goes to show just how tough entry requirements are. It's a shame, in a way, to see it slightly trivialised on TV.

The new guy is like old ant has had babies with the Lloyds advert horse.

I suspect the US guys have been told to watch episodes of the old SAS WDW and behave like certain characters.

Even the way he uses nicknames is forced like he doesn't understand why he is calling a fella called Mark 'Billy'.

You know SAS selection is tough when three fit men sadly die in one year during selection. No doubt they have reviewed safety measures but it's clearly very gruelling. Every special forces selection is brutal, but the Brits do seem to produce something special in theirs. I'm disappointed because, having seen part of his TV interview, I thought the new senior instructor was going to be a candidate on the show. It would have been interesting.

To be fair US Marines are different to our Marines.

US Marines are an entirely seperate branch of the forces with many different job types and specialisations. As a seperate force they operate their own ships and aircraft. Within the US Marines there are some special operations teams though.

UK Marines are a small elite branch of the RN. They are more comparible to the US Marines special operations teams.

yes in simple terms - UK Marines = US Seals (Both classed as Tier 2).

I turned it over to the news for the last 15 or so which shows what I thought of it.

I do really like the one liners that Foxy and Billy come out with. Almost makes it worth watching.

If only we could have a group of contenders with no underlying issues?
Just fit people from all walks of life wanting a crack at it.
I was surprised no-one got dropped from the first episode!

It would be funny if both shows were made by the same production co, and they took all the candidates and dropped them into the opposite shows without warning them.

I don't think I have ever seen such a poorly put together program...

Time to rename I think... Navy Seals: Are You Loud enough!!

New format has destroyed the program completely, Time for the Brits to go their own way....

And it just shows that steroids don't give you brains!!

“SAS: Are you tough enough” which was on the years ago and presented by dermot O’Leary was far better. No sob story in the background, just properly fit civilians. It used to be on YouTube.

The first series of this was perfect. Based in Wales, replicated selection more accurately. Just a bunch of fitness people testing themselves. Then it just suffered from the making things bigger and better and that's when all the sob stories came in and it's been downhill ever since.

It's a real shame they've cocked up the new people. Billy in charge makes more sense. He outranked the others when he was in the forces and has more experience than anyone. Him, Foxy and a couple of other quieter people would have been better.

'Fruity' Rudy Reyes, was USMC Force Recon in Gulf War 2 and can be read about in Generation Kill book. Meant to be the best hand to hand combat guy in Recon at the time

So i imagine itll have more of an American style training regime this time round?
Just got around to watching this and funnily enough I recognised Rudy from Generation Kill. He played himself in the HBO series.
