Nice little bonus vid just dropped.

Very nostalgic for my grandfather's London based garage. Awkward, narrow entrance, complete pain in the arse with multiple cars floating around - yet they make it work.
Bonus? There's the usual 5pm Sunday video, is there another?

Glad Harry went for the bigger engine, I was egging him on when I watched the first video.

I wouldn't have thought there will be another. As you say, 5pm Sunday is as regular as clockwork.

I think they meant bonus as we already had the auction ones, they probably didn’t realise the clock work regularity of Harry’s vids on a Sunday

Apols, but yes - treated the auction preview as the regular vid this week.

Aah, ok. Harry is about the most precisely regular YTer out there. smile

I remember at the beginning of last year, he said his videos might become a bit less regular, and they just got moreso. smile

I would have got a rebuilt Fiat Panda 30 engine, 126P gearbox, CV joints. Going larger cc with the Fiat parallel twin has its limits as you get harmonics and flat spots. This breaks the issues down and explains in detail what the options are. https://club126uk.co.uk/blitzracing/tuning.htm

There's a guy somewhere on the internet that is doing a pretty decent job of putting an air cooled Ducati twin into his 500. I'll try and find a link.

ETA, found it: https://www.fiatforum.com/garage/ducati-powered-fi...

I thought people just used the Panda 30 head, not the whole engine?

If I was restoring another 500, I think I'd put in a 126 rack and pinion steering rack.

Haven’t people used a 1000cc BMW bike engine in the past or is that the 2CV?

I believe there are a few Hyabusa engined 500s out there.

Why not go the whole hog and just drop in an LS? /s

I think these suggestions miss the point; HM isn’t wanting to leave 11s with this thing - he has plenty of other metal for that - the aim is just to make it a little more spritely. I think the spec he’s going for will achieve that.

There's a chap who plonks those in a 2CV. There was also a chap in Watford who put Hyabusa engines in smart cars.

Should have kept it at 600cc and rebuilt it himself. Probably in less time than finding a parking space in London.

The BMW GS does not have any cooling fan or cowling, so not such a big problem in a 2CV as its going in that direction when used as a track day car or jaunts. Yes it has an oil cooler, but you are going to cook it if you are doing slow speed or stop/go traffic. Much like having a water cooled car with no cooling fan on the radiator. Having it mounted backwards means thermal issues.
Putting a busa in a small car, Mini, Suzuki whizkid, Honda 600, Smart or 500 normally uses the whole engine/gearbox but no reverse gear. The BMW K1100 in an Imp is popular swap though.
The weak point of the Fiat 500 is the gearbox, given that Harrys car at the moment has 18hp maybe 22hp in its 595 layout. The EV conversions lunch the gearbox with 55kw motors onto the standard gearbox.
There have been BMW 700C conversions as this was a rear engined BMW car, which I think Harry's wife originally had, the Steyr Puch 500/650 was the production version of this. These have 30hp and can rev quite happily at 8-9000rpm so you can do 60-70mph.This
is a Puch and I have a bias as I have had one.

Even with disc brakes, 126P steering, coil over front suspension and other bits, I found this to be about as fast as you really want to go in a car that you wear like a jacket

Just had a look at the results to see how things have panned out.

Neither TVR sold.

Not disputing the rarity of the T440 but Buy it now prices of 218K for the T440 and £30K for a T350.

I'll take the T350 please! for a cheeky £26k or similar.

Love that Range Rover V12 and also for the first time saw myself wanting a defender, the 50th anniversary ones always look so cool. Otherwise never got the overpriced defender obsession.

Having owned and thoroughly enjoyed both a T350 and a Typhon, I'd take a Griff. biggrin

Considering two spark plug leads can confuse him, it's probably best left to someone who knows how to use the correct end of a spanner. biggrin
