I watched the lot in real time as a pre-teen, there was one episode which was shown much later in the evening (we're talking pre-watershed days folks) where, I think, they de-masked an alien, or did an autopsy on one. I badgered my parents to watch it, dad (God rest his soul) said it was fine as he wanted to watch it as well
Ed Bishop was an old friend from my Captain Scarlet days of course, such a safe pair of hands and a great actor.
That's actually one of the earlier episodes. Skydiver shoots it down and the alien ejects into the waterEd Bishop was an old friend from my Captain Scarlet days of course, such a safe pair of hands and a great actor.

A few years ago I would have assumed it was a joke. But in the modern world there are so many people who don't understand what computers could or couldn't years ago I don't assume anything anymore.
It only seems like yesterday that I went to the cinema to see Clash of the Titans with effects by Ray Harryhausen and being totally amazed. And then, only a short while later, watching Jurassic Park.Watched the first episode on YouTube yesterday, much to my 12 year old son’s amusement! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=C6EBacnmknQ

There is a 12 year gap between those two films. "Clash of the Titans" was released in 1981, "Jurassic Park" in 1993.
Yes I know that.... but looking back over the vast span of my life, it seems in the blink of an eye. I also rarely go to the cinema - which also seems to shorten the gap. I think 12 years is a significant time gap for technology to have moved on - especially in the context of use of computers in film making.
In fact, even in 1981, the original "Clash of the Titans" was looked on as a bit clunky and old fashioned. Harryhausen stuck with what he knew (stop frame animation) and didn't want to embrace the emerging technology. It was in the same time period that Disney released "Tron" which did make use of early CGI and year or so later "The Last Starfighter" was released.

Another 12 years and Terminator 2 had rewritten many of the special effect principles, notably the morphing effect which not only cost a fortune but hadn't even previously existed. In fact, even in 1981, the original "Clash of the Titans" was looked on as a bit clunky and old fashioned. Just watched the first episode for the first time since I was child.I enjoyed it.
Amazing what details I missed then.
I always wondered why the old man never missed an episode when it was on tv!
Seriously though,I found it futuristic and old fashioned at the same time.
Some might say it was sexist but the women in it were taken seriously for the most part and it did have various ethncities in it which was virtually unheard of then.
Oh yes, does anyone know what speed sol 8 meant?

I read years ago that Space 1999 was originally going to be a new series of UFO set in 1999.
Budget contraints meant that UFO was dropped and the new programme made.
Or did I dream that.
That's right, it was originally called 'UFO space 1999' or 'Space 1999 UFO' or some such.Budget contraints meant that UFO was dropped and the new programme made.

A little more incentive, as if any were needed...
If you were lucky enough (or not - it was dire) to have caught "Death is a Woman" on Talking Pictures last night you would have seen even more of Wanda A little more incentive, as if any were needed...
As for UFO, I watched the first episode the other night, it seemed terribly plodding and there was definitely a lot of ACT-ING going on, and lots of ham and cheese must have been served on the catering truck. Well done to the actor who played the Sky 1 pilot, he was even more wooden than any of the Tracy brothers.

The actor was Peter Gordeno who I seem to recall was a sort of Engelbert Humperdink copy type singer / artistAs for UFO, I watched the first episode the other night, it seemed terribly plodding and there was definitely a lot of ACT-ING going on, and lots of ham and cheese must have been served on the catering truck. As a kid I used to get to stay up late to watch UFO for me it was the best thing on the TV, there was nothing like it, the Mobile’s, Sky-Diver, Interceptor’s it was all so amazing.
Captain Scarlet, UFO and Space 1999 are some of my favourite TV shows of all time...oh and UFO has the best intro ever.
I have always said if a studio had the balls to make a full on movie version of Captain Scarlet it would be sensational and probably a huge franchise hit as they could have something new every time, with modern effects the Misteron devastation would be awesome...sadly it will never be.
